It was such a pleasure to serve as a guest on this Hawaii show. Mahalo Jessica Lani Rich for having me.
A 58 year-old golfer came in with back pain. For two years, he was told it was piriformis or sciatica. We uncovered that it was actually a herniated disc and no surgery was required. PRP injections - which contain growth factors and cytokines - proteins that jump start your body’s healing mechanisms - helped our patient get back on the fairway. Get a second opinion. You and your family are your best healthcare advocates.
I'm thankful that Hawaii now has its only Regenexx laboratory where we can adjust dosage and concentrations based on unique medical history, diagnosis and individualized treatment plan. This technology to utilize therapies that concentrate your own BMAC (a fluid from your own body that contains stem cells) is groundbreaking.
Prolotherapy treats painful muscle, tendon, ligament and joint conditions. Often persistent pain is often due to unfinished healing or residual scar tissue. Prolotherapy aims to provoke a healing response and gets those cellular mechanisms back on track.

A. PRP should be red
B. This is a "blind" injection (ie the doctor is just "sticking the needle in and feeling the way in with the needle tip")
C. The doctor doesn't need to wear gloves because PRP is safer than cortisone
D. A and C are both false.
Answer: D
PRP should be amber colored (PRP stands for platelet rich plasma, iow: PRP that only contains platelets (and no red blood cells) gives it a characterist amber (not bloody red) color. In the picture below, its looking very clear (almost like platelet-poor plasma).
Platelets and stem cells don't have a built in "GPS" system telling them where to go- if your doctor is injecting PRP or stem cells, be sure to find out what type of live, digital image guidance system will be used to deliver the injection to precisely to the area of injury in need of repair. This is 2021; live digital image guidance is becoming standard-of-care.
Sterile gloves and sterile technique involve thoroughly cleaning and surrounding the injection site with sterile drapes. This is done for your protection (and to keep your bacteria and microparticles of lunch from contaminating your injection). Sterile gloves are a must for the safety of both you and your physician.
Could platelet-rich plasma injections help avoid knee surgery? More studies may give answer. PRP is part of regenerative medicine therapies. But research shows conflicting results and mainstream medicine — and insurance companies — have steered clear.

If anyone tries to inject cells into your body without live image guidance, . You want the best tech tools with digital fluoroscopy and ultrasound to carefully and precisely inject super-concentrated platelets or BMAC (a fluid from your own body that contains stem cells) directly into areas of arthritis, injured nerves, muscles, tendons, ligaments and joints to nurture your body’s healing. Otherwise, it’s .
