Art Square Studios on Almeda is a collection of studios and artist residencies located above the store Art Supply on Almeda.
There are a wide range of artists, photographers, fashion designers, graphic artists and other creatives who inhabit the studios.

Sunny McKinnon, Studio 324
Sunny McKinnon is a Houston-based artist who takes inspiration from the beauty and variety of the Gulf Coast countryside. Her work jumps from black-and-white charcoal drawings to local flowers captured in oil to landscapes and seascapes rendered in pastels. Her landscapes are inspired by the muted colors and serenity of Texas’ flat coastal plains, that are punctuated by the suddenness of a storm only Texas weather can offer and the graceful beauty of the sky.
You can find her work at Art Square Studios, 5301 Almeda; and Arden’s Picture Framing and Gallery, 2302 Dunlavy, Houston 77006.

Riaz Khan, Studio 308
Riaz is a passionate photographer who left his medical career to start an artistic adventure. His travels have offered him a genuine approach to his work, where drama combines with elegance and precision to yield the unexpected.
His journey in photography formally began in 2009 when he moonlighted as a concert and event photographer in Detroit, MI. This led to a slew of work opportunities in NYC and in 2011 Riaz moved to Houston where he collaborated with boutique advertising agencies, newspapers and local startups. In 2015 he formed his own LLC and went freelance.
Riaz is a portrait and narrative photographer. He lives in Houston, TX and travels to New York for work. He is available for portraiture and campaigns for advertising, fashion and Non Profit Organizations.

Meet the artist:
Melinda Laszczynski
My work consists primarily of abstract, colorful paintings and sculptures made of hand built or thrown and altered ceramic and dyed and cast paper pulp. Encrusted with a jumble of materials- paint, found objects, and glitter- the surfaces read as confectionary archeological sites. I think of my paintings as between portals
and gardens; tactile spaces that shift and reflect the body and sedimentation. When I am in the studio, I think of cakes rising and falling, bodies pushing against one another, and new growth pushing through organic forms. Layers of texture and color spill out and fight for air. Overall, my studio practice is playful and tactile.

Meet the artist:
Cynthia Kagay, is a visual artist working primarily in painting. Having recently relocated to Houston, her current body of work focuses mainly on her immediate surroundings, which when new to a place are often unfamiliar, strange, but also seductive. She documents these fleeting intimacies by painting quickly
with oil on aluminum panels. The soft reflective surface of the aluminum mimics the shifting light of the subject matter while drips of paint reference the intense summer humidity of the South.
Kagay’s work has been shown nationally and internationally, including exhibitions at Lawndale Art Center (Houston, TX), San Francisco Museum of Modern Art (San Francisco, CA), University College of London (London, England), Studio Marangoni (Florence, Italy), Pratt Institute (Brooklyn, NY), Rhode Island School of Design (Providence, RI), Anderson Ranch Arts Center (Snowmass, CO), among others. She holds a BA from the California College of the Arts, San Francisco and an MFA from the Slade School of Fine Art, London England.

LIMINAL SPACE is the threshold of transitioning from one state of consciousness into a deeper consciousness. Or one can interpret it as a transition from one place to another. Each artist will depict his or her own interpretation. The pieces in the installation will be hung together but will be sold separately.

Ruhee Maknojia: Pattern and Power Exhibition at Anya Tish Gallery
This exhibition will feature all new paintings, installation, and a never-before-seen animation. This particular collection of art consociates 10th-16th century poetic fables with mundane moments from contemporary life. It explores possible relationships that can form between literary masterpieces originating from eastern oral traditions and the current visual art space.
