RICE ALERT - FLOODING ON CAMPUS ROADWAYS
Some campus roadways have high water due to heavy rain bands. Entrance 8 and entrance 3 are flooded and closed at this time. Please use caution driving around campus until water drains off in areas where high water has collected.
The severe weather is expected to move through the area in the next few hours.
A tornado watch has been issued for the Harris County and Houston area until 6:00pm. For more weather information please visit https://www.weather.gov/hgx/. Seek shelter from storms and lowering temperatures.
Severely cold weather expected this week. The National Weather Services reminds us to protect people, pets, pipes and plants. Continue to monitor the weather and stay safe.
The City of Houston and part of Rice university's campus is currently under a boil water notice. All buildings that are east of Alumni Drive are serviced by the campus well and are not impacted by the boil water requirement (this includes all residential colleges). All buildings west of alumni drive, with the exception of Kraft Hall, are impacted by the boil water notice. See your email or emergency.rice.edu for updates.

Masking indoors is required again on campus.
Effective immediately, we’re making the following changes for the remainder of the calendar year:
We urge everyone who can work remotely to do so. Supervisors should provide maximum flexibility for all employees.
The indoor mask policy is reinstated.
Research activities can continue, but it is important to wear a mask and keep at least six feet apart from others. Research facilities and services will remain open, but operate under our distancing protocols.
Indoor gatherings of more than five people are prohibited.
The following entities and services are modifying their hours of operation:
o The Gibbs Recreation Center will be closed from Monday, Dec. 20, until the week of Jan. 3.
o Fondren Library will be closed through Monday, Jan. 3. Fondren will reinstate its materials pick up service Monday, Dec. 20 through Wednesday, Dec. 22 from 9 a.m.-4 p.m. via the library’s east entrance (facing the Academic Quad). o All dining services will be closed.
o Shuttle bus service will be discontinued until the week of Jan. 3.

If your symptoms are COVID related, visit coronavirus.rice.edu and complete the Heath Report Form.
Remember to practice physical distancing of at least 6’ when around other individuals.
Some individuals without symptoms may be able to spread the virus. Keeping distance from others is especially important for those who are at high risk of getting very sick.
- Fully vaccinated people coming to campus must test weekly while unvaccinated must test twice per week.
If you are feeling ill or have symptoms, DO NOT go to your regular scheduled test. Fill out a health report form so the contact tracing team can register you for a symptomatic test.
Regular operations today on campus includes squirrel smiles.
