Ali Azizpour, an ECE grad student, and Kristen Curry, a CS Ph.D. alumna, have developed new AI tools to analyze DNA data from diverse environments. Known as GraSSRep and rhea, these tools facilitate the identification of repeated DNA sequences and structural changes within microbial communities, providing valuable insights into microbial evolution and interactions. Adam Farsheed, bioengineering Ph.D. alum of Dr. Jeff Hartgerink's lab, has created a biomaterial that can be used to grow biological tissues outside the human body.
