We are proud to share his successes. He still has a journey ahead of him to be able to run and race his son again. Let’s keep his spirits up and motivated to achieve his goals!

Happy New Year! Now that we are rolling into 2022 we are almost a month away from the Benefit! Darryn is doing well and progressing; we are still looking for donation items and we will be taking registrations for the (poker run) and car show. We look forward to seeing you all on Feb 5th!
We could use prayers today! Darryn has had some pressure wounds and hasn’t been able to wear his prosthetic for 6 weeks. He has been on antibiotics for a week and now two days into a fever. He had 101.4 this morning still; we are headed to wound care specialist at 10am this morning. Please pray we get some relief for my fiancé and answers to these wounds. 🙏🏻🙏🏻
HICKS' STANDS UP! Darryn Hicks was hit while driving his motorcycle on April 24, 2021; if it wasn't for God, the City of Sante Fe Volunteer Fire Department, and the Staff at HCA Hospital he may not be here to STAND UP! Now he STANDS UP for BIKER AWARENESS, VOLUNTEER FIRST RESPONDERS, INSURANCE REFORM and AMPUTEE SUPPORT!
Hicks was fifty-three when he was hit by a car on his motorcycle and not only had his right foot been amputated but he was completely reconstructed from the waist down fracturing his pelvis, both femurs and knees. Hicks was blessed by angels as the Santa Fe Fire Department happened to be directly behind the man that didn’t see him and hit him; allowing them to immediately jump off the truck and stop oncoming traffic. Hicks' 15-year-old son was at home and by the grace of God Darryn was able to make a call before going unconscious. As a single father his first thought was to get his son with family; it’s a miracle he was able to make the call and that a teenager answered at 10am on a Saturday. He was thrown 160ft into oncoming traffic lanes and his right foot was severed at the scene. The firefighters were able to put tourniquets on his legs and transport him to HCA where he underwent multiple surgeries over two days. He then was in a medical coma for two weeks and caught pneumonia in the middle of the pandemic; once he was stable and able, he had to fight insurance to get moved to a rehab facility. After a month in the Hospital, he was transferred to the Rehabilitation Facility and a week later he was able to move from wheelchair to bed but was non-weight bearing for another three months. He did return home with home visits from a physical therapist. He now has a prosthetic leg and has returned to work partially with a decrease in income. As of November 12, 2021, a little less than 7 months he has been billed over Three Million Dollars. He would have done better without insurance as Medicaid would have covered 100%. Instead, the Insurance has only covered One and a Half Million and he truly doesn’t know what he will owe in the end. The man that hit him was only insured for 30K personal injury and has zero assets.
