Have you heard the recent news that major car insurance companies, like Allstate and State Farm, are pulling back on insuring Kia and Hyundai vehicles? 🤯
This has understandably confused and concerned many Americans, so we thought we would take a second to set the record straight. Here’s an overview of the situation:
🚘 Kia and Hyundai vehicles have historically been targets for theft due to the way they are manufactured.
🚘 Thefts of Kia and Hyundai cars have exploded in the last year after details of how to hotwire 2010-2022 vehicles spread across social media.
🚘 In response, Allstate, Progressive, and State Farm are cutting back on writing new policies for these vehicles. They will continue to insure existing customers, according to NPR.
🚘 Americans who own cars with this hotwiring vulnerability should check to see if their cars have received the software fix both manufacturers have released for free.
🚘 Those considering purchasing used cars should keep in mind that purchasing vehicles with this vulnerability may result in coverage issues. The good news is our independent agents can shop the market for the best options.

📅 On This Day in History: October 14, 1947
Seventy-five years ago, a groundbreaking moment soared through the skies! ✈️✨
The Bell X-1 Glamorous Glennis, under the command of U.S. Air Force Captain Charles E. “Chuck” Yeager, achieved an incredible feat. It became the very first airplane to break the sound barrier, flying faster than the speed of sound! 🚀💨
Yeager's pioneering spirit and incredible skill propelled humanity into a new era of aviation, forever changing the possibilities of air travel and pushing the boundaries of what we thought was possible.
Today, let's commemorate this remarkable milestone in aviation history and honor the courage of Captain Chuck Yeager, who defied the odds and blazed a trail for future generations of dreamers. ✈️🌟

Did you know people with disabilities are the largest minority group in the United States?
This Disability Employment Awareness Month, we want to share steps employers can take to prioritize disability equity:
✔️ Take a look at your job listings. Ensure the postings are accessible, and consider whether job requirements (like the ability to 20 pounds) are truly necessary for the job.
✔️ Create an inclusive work environment. Ensure your office space is accessible, make reasonable accommodations, be open to employee feedback, and train your entire staff on disability awareness.
✔️ Provide comprehensive coverage. Also keep in mind coverage types that may be especially important for people with disabilities. For example, people with disabilities often struggle to get life insurance, so this can be a great employer offering.
By prioritizing disability equity, you can attract and retain top talent, improve employee morale/productivity, reduce your legal liability, and create a more welcoming workplace.
Share this post to raise awareness of disability equity in the workplace, and let us know in the comments what you’re doing to make your workplace more inclusive ⬇️.
Did you know that 67% of Americans have no estate plan? 🤯
🙌🔒 Estate planning is like a safety net for your loved ones, ensuring your assets and wishes are taken care of when you're no longer around. Plus, it can save your family from a whole lot of headaches and disputes.
Have you considered these eight common estate planning mistakes?
1️⃣ Making no last will and testament or living will
2️⃣ Failing to specify legal guardians for your children
3️⃣ Identifying only one beneficiary
4️⃣ Not discussing your end-of-life wishes with loved ones
5️⃣ Designating assets that may change or no longer exist at the time of your death
6️⃣ Not accounting for estate taxes
7️⃣ Never updating your will after making one
8️⃣Underestimating or not having enough life insurance
On the note of life insurance, this October is the perfect time to ensure that you have checked off this key element of estate planning–and that it reflects your current needs.
Have questions? DM us or give us a call. We’re here to ensure that you and your family are fully protected and prepared for the future 👍
Did you know a burglary happens once every 30 seconds in the United States? If that statistic has you wondering whether you really did lock your door, we get it…and may have done a quick check ourselves 👀
Once you get back from double (or triple) checking, here are some other steps you can take to protect your home when you’re out and about:
💡 Install motion sensor lighting outside as a deterrent at night.
📵 Limit announcing your whereabouts on social media. While you may know most everyone on your friend list, more people can see social media activity than you may realize.
⏰ Consider installing an alarm system. Alarm systems have come a long way--they're easy to install and even easier to operate. Many will notify the company and/or the police if the alarm is tripped.
🎥 Install cameras. Cameras act as a deterrent and can help catch individuals who wander onto your property. Perimeter or porch cameras are easy to install and operate.
Have any tips to add to this list? Share them in the comments!
Is there something this October that has you preoccupied, anxious, or discouraged? Here are a few words of encouragement: don’t give up.
As one of our nation’s most brilliant and determined inventors once said:
“Our greatest weakness lies in giving up. The most certain way to succeed is always to try just one more time.” - Thomas Edison

⚠️Watch out for road conditions⚠️
With the incoming weather, we encourage you to exercise caution on the roads–or better yet, try to avoid them if you can.

Driving is an everyday activity for most of us, making it easy for drivers to go on autopilot along with their cars 🚘
But given that two out of every three people will be involved in an accident with serious injuries, it’s important to remain vigilant, no matter how many times you’ve stepped into the driver’s seat.
Here are a few 🔑 ways to do just that:
🚗 Wear your seatbelt - Wearing a seatbelt is the most effective way to reduce fatality risk in a crash. In fact, the NHTSA says seatbelts cut crash-related serious injuries and deaths by half.
🚗 Practice defensive driving - Be aware of what other drivers around you are doing, expect the unexpected, and keep a two-second cushion between you and the car in front of you.
🚗 Don’t multi-task while driving - Multi-tasking while driving is dangerous and can cause you to swerve, hit other cars, or run into stationary objects on the side of the road.
🚗 Don’t drive impaired - Alcohol and drugs impair decision-making and alertness even if you feel fine–and so does being tired. Controlled studies show drowsy driving can cause a similar amount of crashes as drunken driving.

How does saving thousands of dollars in car repairs sound? We’re here to share some maintenance tips that may do just that! Check them out below:
🔧 Check your spare tire - It’s just as important to keep the backup tire inflated as it is to the four tires under your car. Test the air pressure of your driving tires and spare tire once a month.
🔧 Change the oil - Since oil affects many of your car’s functions, oil problems can be costly to fix. Pay as little as $25 to change your oil, and generally do so every 5,000 miles.
🔧 Keep the battery clean - If you don’t keep it clean, it could develop a crack or not function properly. Test your battery twice a year and inspect it for corrosion.
🔧 Replace the brake pads - Check the brake fluid every time you change the oil. If it’s dark in color, reach out to a mechanic to get your brake fluid changed and see if a new system is needed.
🔧 Replace your air filter - Change your air filter every 12 months or 12,000 miles, as using an old air filter can lead to significant – and costly – problems for your air conditioning system.
🔧 Get your tires rotated - Rotate your tires every 3,000 to 5,000 miles, and you can extend their life–and save yourself $400 to $800 for a brand-new set of four.

We hope that everyone is safe and sound after the recent storm – and that your properties haven’t endured significant damage.

🏠 Fuel tanks

⚠️Weather alert⚠️
If you live near AREA, we are expecting some pretty heavy rain that may cause flooding in some areas.
With that in mind, we wanted to share a brief pre-storm checklist:
🌧️ Seal windows and doors - Water can enter if your seals are cracked or brittle, so it's essential to seal or install covers. For a quick, temporary fix, use window sealing tape.
🌧️ Store and cover valuable outside items - Store items in a waterproof shed if you have one. If not, bring the items inside your home and ensure any items left outside are secured properly.
🌧️ Prepare for wind - Heavy winds can blow outdoor furniture around and cause damage. Make sure to tie down your furniture outside.
If you have any questions about your flood coverage, please contact our team. We are here to help.

Did you know one in eight women will develop breast cancer in their lifetime? And even more will know or love someone fighting this destructive disease.
That’s why, during Breast Cancer Awareness Month, we want to raise awareness about this form of cancer. Take a look at a few key facts below:
💝 One in eight women will develop breast cancer in their lifetime.
💝 The average age of diagnosis is 62, but breast cancer can occur at any age.
💝 Early detection is key to survival. When breast cancer is caught before it has spread to other areas of the body, the five-year relative survival rate is 99%.
💝 As such, it's important to talk to your doctor about any risk factors and get regular mammograms once it’s recommended you do so.
💝The United States Preventive Services Task Force recommends women ages 50-74 with an average risk receive a mammogram every two years. Women ages 40 to 49 should talk with their doctor to determine when to start and frequency.
💝 There are many effective treatments for breast cancer, and the survival rate has been steadily increasing in recent years.
Share this post to raise awareness about breast cancer, and remember to talk to your friends and family about the disease and encourage them to get screened.
