My mom (the real chef) and I crossed the border when I was 11. As a DACA-owned business, we know the road ahead may be tough, but we’re here to stay. Houston is our home, and no one will take that away from us.
Now more than ever, we need to stand together, support one another, and show up for our community.

WOMEN ON THE MOVE: Victoria Elizondo | Cochinita & co. - Houston

Originally from Nuevo Leon, Mexico, Victoria moved to the U.S. with her mother at 12 years old and became a DACA recipient. Not long after, at age 16, she began working as a restaurant hostess and server, where she was inspired to enroll in culinary school, eventually working in some of Houston’s top restaurants.

With her passion for cooking and her culture, Elizondo felt the best way to promote Mexican culture was by opening Cochinita & Co. in 2016. What started asa table and a tent doing pop-ups to a food truck grew into a catering service and restaurant.

Elizondo has been nominated for not one but two James Beard Foundation Awards. In 2022, she released Taco-Tastic, a beautiful cookbook featuring over 60 taco recipes.

I am deeply saddened and concerned about being closed for the past 3 days due to Hurricane Beryl leaving most of Houston without power. It may not sound like a lot of days but for a small business, just a couple of days without income can be catastrophic.
As a DACA receipient, I am used to not having access to certain opportunities (loans, gov assistance) but it has never stopped me from keeping the doors open and serving my community. This is the first time in 8 years I’m feeling defeated.

So I would like to kindly ask that if you plan on visiting us in the future or want to send a gift to someone who lives in Houston please consider buying an e-gift card from us.
