Remember Nala? Her story is a bittersweet one, beginning with the fear that she might not find a foster due to the limited supply of caregivers. Just when hope seemed lost, a foster stepped up to pull her out of her shelter life. Despite some bumps in the road, Nala finally made it home. Our heartfelt thanks go to everyone who played a part in her journey!

Currently, Nala is decompressing with her foster family and has become quite the velcro chow. Her foster describes her as super sweet and loving! However, we are still in desperate need of more fosters to help other dogs like Nala. If you can open your heart and home to a dog in need, please consider becoming a foster.

Ganon, Our Miracle Chow, is Now Available for Adoption!

If you’ve been following Ganon’s story, you know he’s a true miracle pup. Originally surrendered by his owners and set up for failure, he was saved from the euthanasia list with just hours to spare by our wonderful foster, Violet. Now renamed Ganon, he is thriving and loving life with her dogs! He did have a minor incident with a hissing cat, likely due to his protective nature, but he’s shown he can get along with other animals, like opossums. To date, he is a happy, affectionate, and well-trained dog who knows sit and high-five. His gentle demeanor will surely melt your heart.

Meet Finnegan, a pup so well-mannered he was once known as "Good Boy"! According to his temp foster Jarad, he's "practically perfect in every way" – just like Mary Poppins. Despite his incredible manners, Finnegan was saved at the last minute from the EU list in San Antonio, TX. Special thanks to Jarad, Violet, and Shannon, he's now safe and thriving in foster care in Smithville, TX.

Herzog wants to let you know he's available for adoption! Saved from being stranded on the streets by his family, he's come a long way! Located in Austin, TX, he's still healing from his skin issues but will quickly recover with his future adopter – which could be you!

He loves to communicate and is quite vocal, but one thing is clear: he's a huge cuddler if you don't mind him cramming between your legs. He's also been given heartworm and flea preventative treatments, as well as a deep clean, medicated bath to help soften his skin.

A desperate plea has reached us about an injured Chow roaming the streets of Lubbock, TX urgently needing rescue and medical attention. Are there any resources or volunteers in Lubbock who can help catch him??

He's been living on the streets for some time now. His right eye looks infected and may need surgery, and his nose is torn!

They’ve contacted Lubbock Animal Services and posted on Nextdoor. He was last seen in the shade of a home in the 4900 area of Lehigh St in Northpoint. He ate food and drank a lot of water provided by their neighbor. Despite months of building trust, he still won't let anyone get near him ❤️‍🩹

💡 It's HCCC Alumni Spotlight Thursday, and today we're catching up with Sage, now known as Jochi! For those who don't know, he was one of the Flower Boys to Mama Lily who has found his forever home!

Here's what Jochi's family has to say:

"From the beginning of the application process to the ongoing support we have received, we have been very impressed and tremendously blessed. We were more than fortunate to be able to spend a few days with Carol and her fosters, getting to know them all, but it was love at first sight when we first pulled up to the house and Jochi was standing on the side of his playpen, just waiting for us to come to get him and bring him home. He is a blessing and a joy to us and has put the spark back into the lives of our two older dogs and our older cat as well."

Introducing Autumn!

Autumn found her way to our foster, Samantha, in September 2023 after being rescued from the streets of Corpus Christi. She endured the harsh conditions of a junkyard, giving birth to 8 puppies in 100-degree weather, with no rescue willing to take them in. Now, all her puppies have been adopted, and Autumn is ready for her forever home.

Her fosters report that she loves lounging around the house and eating. She enjoys jumping on people for love and reassurance, and her hazel eyes perfectly complement her red fur.

Autumn was an amazingly nurturing mother. She allowed her pups to nurse even after other dogs had weaned theirs and never corrected them. She always checked on them and was incredibly attentive. When one of her pups returned after adoption at five months old, she spent every minute with him, and they had to be kenneled together. She never resource-guarded anything from her pups, letting them take whatever they wanted once they got in her way.

Let's extend a warm welcome to Lt. Worf! Before arriving at HCCC, a kind-hearted Good Samaritan found him and, unable to care for him, surrendered him to the Franklin County IN shelter and they reached out to us to help.

As he adjusts to his new environment with his foster mom in lowa, he is showing positive signs of decompression and is doing well with his 4 resident dogs in her apartment. He has a few things to check off the top of his to-do list before he's ready to find his forever! Stay tuned for updates!
