Where: Edith L. Moore Nature Sanctuary, 440 Wilchester Blvd, Houston, TX 77079

What: Houston Audubon owns and manages Edith L. Moore Nature Sanctuary. The sanctuary offers walking trails, birding, educational programs, and history. Volunteers will assist with trail maintenance, litter pick-up, gardening, and invasive species removal.

IMPORTANT STUDENT SEND-OFF INFORMATION: Hey H-Town Penn Staters, we're looking forward to hosting the student send-off later this month! However, we are still searching for a location to host it. We usually have one of our local alumni open their home to host our picnic-like event to newly accepted students in the Houston area who are heading to Penn State campuses this fall. The dates we are looking at to host is on Saturday, July 27, Saturday, Aug. 3 or Saturday, Aug. 10.

What: Buffalo Bayou Park is a nonprofit leading the planning, design, activation, and stewardship of Buffalo Bayou Park. Activities could include weeding, removing invasive plants, spreading mulch, trail clean-up, and trash pick-up.

The Chapter has reached Elm Level Group of Distinction from Penn State Alumni Association for the 5th year in a row and 13 of the last 14 years!

Some notes for tomorrow's watch party at The Phoenix on Westheimer:

The game is an 11 a.m. kickoff, and there will be some early soccer matches at the Phoenix. So after talking to the ownership, I have these three things to say:
Get there early! The soccer matches start at 9 a.m. and end at 11, right as the PSU-OSU game is in pregame. There will be a few minutes before the football game kicks off, so don’t worry if the soccer matches run a little bit longer than usual (Soccer matches do not go into overtime in the regular season).
The game will be on inside the bar area! As soon as the soccer matches are over, almost all the TVs will switch to the PSU game.
Parking will be at a premium! With soccer fans and Penn State fans both there, parking will be tough to get. Remember that there are businesses near the Phoenix, and they have parking spaces that are for them. Please adhere to the signs. Also, there is parking on streets and at Lanier Middle School, which is nearby.
Use Uber and Lyft, if possible! With limited parking, I recommend using ridesharing options to get to the Phoenix. Just be sure to plan ahead!
Also, the halftime raffle will include great prizes, including a Penn State football DVD and a Penn State mini football helmet!

Participate in the THON 5K on October 22!

Join chapter members as we support Penn State THON by walking/running on Sunday, October 22 as part of the annual THON 5K.

We will be meeting at Memorial Park at 4 p.m. We will gather at the lot at 6678 Arnot Street (next to the pool) for a group photo and then hit the trails. After completing the 5K, feel free to hang with us at Canyon Creek for dinner and drinks. The suggested donation amount is $20 or more per person. Hope you’ll join our team!
