This week’s SUNDAY NIGHT SPECIAL features Matsutake Mushrooms which we’ve confit in beef fat and grilled over coals. The aromatics and meaty texture of these mushrooms are ridiculously delicious. It’s served with an egg yolk sauce, thyme and shaved, dried beef flank, making for a rich small plate to accompany your melted onions or tomato toast. Friday shoutout to our Sous Chef, Michael Pitschmann! Michael has been with us for the last three years, having been promoted to sous chef earlier this year. His easy going, Tolkien-loving, Comic Con-attending, ambitious attitude is a calming effect on our kitchen, and his attention to detail keeps our menu tuned in with every dish. You’ll hardly find a harder worker than Michael, who loves taking classic recipes and reimagines them. Stop by to say hello to , CDC and the rest of our great staff this weekend!

AGNOLOTTI WITH CREAM, ‘MUSCADINE’ GRAPES AND OREGANO this SUNDAY. Muscadine Grape season is winding down, so we gotta keep running one of our favorite Sunday Specials till we can’t no mo’. We hand make (well, mostly does) all of our pastas and dumplings in house and it’s been a joy to make agnolotti again for this dish. It’s that great balance of simple, yet not so simple that we know and love to do. Come get it this Sunday. LAST CALL FOR OUR SUMMER WINE SALE— that’s right, we’re super excited for our new wine list to drop next week! So this is the LAST WEEK to get these Cellar Raid Sale prices, some that are almost like retail markups, some even less at the restaurant with our menu. We have a last few bottles of the last bits and pieces of our old list: like the Radio-Coteau Board and Batten from 2019, a robust red wine with a Zinfandel backbone from the Sonoma Coast. We are so excited to welcome our NEW WINE BUYER , who will guide and give our wine list her own unique personality. Our NEW LIST LAUNCHES in September! We’ve always been so fortunate to have such talented professionals lead our wine list and Christina is no different, bringing her Franco-first perspective to our little restaurant. Her years of wine experience in Austin and Houston at some of the city’s best restaurants (like our favorite, where she is still the floor manager) and retail shops will be apparent as she guides our wine selections and education for our front of house staff so that we can continue to give you the best experience in both wine and food as we possibly can.
In addition to being one hell of a sommelier and a TexSom award winner, Christina is one hell of a pizzaiolo, having worked in kitchens before, a movie fanatic and a new mom! We’re so excited to be working with her!
SUNDAY SPECIALS are simple, delicious dishes focused on unique ingredients we can only get every once in a while or that take a little extra care to cook the way we want. Most of these ingredients are too limited or the preparation is too intricate to put on the regular menu, so we serve them on Sundays (and sometimes Mondays) because we can’t help but want to cook them when we have them.
Grey Triggerfish is one of ’s favorite Gulf fish to break down and cook. Its skin feels almost like a football and is super fun to take off when cleaning it. Its flesh is savory and almost crustacean-like in flavor and has the texture of tender pork. There’s truly nothing like it. Our kitchen roasts it simply in foamy butter, just til it turns golden, and serves it in a sauce finished with orange wine with fruity, tannic quality alongside fermented ramps from this past spring.
Then of course are some wedges of lemon served on a glass fish-shaped plate with fish-shaped lemon squeezies. Because we’re just like that.
Come visit us on Sundays when we get to serve limited amounts of these special dishes! They rotate weekly, so you’ll always have something new to try.

Our cellar raid WINE SALE is back and WE’RE BACK TOO! Gone Fishin’ — We’ll be taking our SUMMER BREAK starting this Sunday, August 4 to Thursday, August 8th and re-opening for dinner service Friday, August 9th. No plans for Monday Night? We have a NEW DISH on our menu: the dark meat of chicken is deboned and brushed with a mushroom tare that we’ve been working on for a few months, it’s slowly roasted over coals until the skin is rendered and crispy and served alongside crisp lettuces that look like the simplest salad ever. Except that there’s a toasted pumpkin seed purée, green tomatoes pickled with yuzu, smoked, pickled lunchbox peppers and an oil infused with preserved lime so that the “simple” salad next to your chicken is the most aromatic, crispy, refreshing bites to go along with the roasty, savory chicken.
But really. It’s just grilled chicken and salad.

We got power back late Tuesday and the staff has worked furiously yesterday to re-prep the entire menu and get the restaurant ready for you so that we can open today. We’re just so relieved we can get back to normal life, or at least something like it. We’ll be open tonight!
If you’d like to support the staff that has been unable to get back to work since the hurricane hit, please go visit tonight who is cooking some light hearted fare with all proceeds going to our hourly staff. You can’t miss either way. Thank you so much for your patience, Houston, we can’t wait to see you!
Our roasted leg of chicken with vadouvan is LEAVING THE MENU SOON. We take the dark meat from a bird raised by farmer Jill at and slowly render the skin and roast it golden, finishing it with a heavy schmear of house-made vadouvan, that French-tinged curry filled with onions, garlic, green cardamom and fenugreek among the many ingredients in it. With it, we serve our most favorite crispy potatoes, finished with that vegetal acidity of green sorrel. However much we love it from over the last couple of years, some times it’s just time to move on, so come say “so long” to it and try a few of our new dishes if you haven’t been back in a bit.

Our classic dessert. The strawberry buttercake with chilled, cardamom infused cream is the perfect way to end the evening with us. Dense, fatty cake piped with strawberry jam and finished with a sugar brûlée.
