On July 21, 2023, the Board of Trustees of Lone Star College announced its selection of Mr. Mario Castillo to serve as the next Chancellor of our system.

As you know from the open forums held the last two weeks, the Board had a number of stellar candidates to choose from. Thank you to all of you who filled out the surveys about these candidates. Regardless of who your favorite may have been, it is crucial that we always make sure employees express their voices clearly and courageously.

As we move forward, please know that the AFT is firmly committed to continue to work steadfastly to protect the rights and to advance the concerns of the employees of this incredible college. It is our intention to reach out to Mr. Castillo to establish a positive dialog between him and the union. In the meantime, continue to stand in solidarity with your brother and sister employees and continue to do the amazing work you all do in your various important roles to support Lone Star College students.

Together, we WILL thrive!

In Solidarity,

John Burghduff, president

Question to our members: What made you join
AFT-Lone Star College?

Call now! 05/22/2023

At 10 p.m. last night, the Senate Public Ed. committee dropped a new substitute for HB 100 to hear TODAY. This new bill:

* Reduces the basic allotment increase to just $50 per student (when we need $1,000)
* Eliminates support staff from the meager raises that increase will provide
* Increases the funding that privately run charter schools receive
* Inserts the private school voucher from SB 8 that Texans already REJECTED
We have to get loud. Again.

The House must reject the Senate’s 11th-hour amendments. Call your representative right now and tell them to stop holding your pay raise hostage for a voucher scam that Texans don’t want.

Call now! The clock is ticking on real raises for ALL school employees in this legislative session! Your representative needs to hear from you every day until we have a budget and a bill that takes care of us all.

Call these Representatives as soon as you can today! You can leave a message for them to vote “NO” on SB 8. Phone calls matter and are crucial today.

Shady Dealings on SB 8 Voucher Bill

🚨 After his attempt to rush a vote to defund our schools through voucher schemes failed, Chairman Brad Buckley has scheduled a hearing without public testimony 🚨

The House Public Education Committee will hearing a NEW version of Senate Bill 8, a massive school voucher proposal, on Monday, May 15. Without any opportunity for teachers, school staff, and parents to speak on the bill. This is unacceptable!

Chairman Buckley denied hearings on bills that would lower class sizes, reduce your workload, and give all school employees a real raise. And now he's rushing to vote on a bill that would take even more money away from our public schools?

We have to act FAST. Click through and send a NEW letter to every member of the committee. Tell them to vote NO on SB 8.
