We had the heater off this weekend since it was warming up on Friday and forgot to put it back on heat before leaving. Now we’ve got the toaster oven on broil to help us get warmed up! Luckily I brought gumbo so we should be thawed out after lunch!

TLDR: The bad experiences in the insurance auto claims world is often outside of the hands of the insurance company. Here is me adding diesel to a truck I’ve had for a month that isn’t mine!

Here is a story that if it was an insurance claim we would have had an unhappy customer, but it wasn’t through insurance it was a warranty claim at a dealership:

My new truck had a sensor going off when it shouldn’t and it needed adjustment or a replacement. So, I had my truck dropped off at the DEALERSHIP one month ago today while on a trip. I was hoping to have it fixed by the time I got back from my trip a week later. When I got back from my trip a week later they still have not worked on the vehicle (they are backed up and understaffed). I go 3 more days without having a vehicle then finally get a call saying it is ready.

I pick it up and within 1 mile of driving off the lot the sensor is going off again! It was not fixed, maybe not even worked on. I tell them I can’t go any more days without a vehicle and it took them 2 days to find me one, they gave me a brand new truck just like mine to drive, but a diesel version (which was nice and you would expect them to complete my work quickly to get theirs back).

Another 2.5 weeks go by and they tell me to pick up the truck which was this morning. I get it back and it has two deep scratches on it. So they are now keeping my truck longer to fix the scratches they put on it while trying to fix my sensor issue. People- this is one month of run around and they are having me drive a brand new loaner truck and the sense of urgency is not there.

Now imagine most other body shops issues, staffing issues, supply chain issues, rental car supply issues, and human error that happens all day in our industry. State Farm is not perfect, but many of our problems we run into are out of the insurance company’s hands. Show grace, patients, and understanding where you can because people need it now….and if you have to get mad know where to direct some of that frustration!
