DHS Launches Wisconsin Wayfinder:
Children's Resource Network
Connecting Wisconsin families with special health care needs to
essential support and resources The Wisconsin Department of Health Services (DHS) today launched a new service that will transform the support structure for families of children with delays, disabilities, special health care needs, or mental health conditions. Wisconsin Wayfinder: Children's Resource Network includes a user-friendly website and toll-free helpline that lets families easily connect with real people - dedicated children's resource guides - who will help navigate through the essential services and supports that will enable their children to thrive. "This service is a critical step toward improving the way families with special health care needs access and connect with the vital resources they need, especially during crucial moments like after an initial diagnosis," said DHS Deputy Secretary Deb Standridge. "Our children's resource guides are people committed to personally assisting families on this journey. Wisconsin Wayfinder embodies our commitment to inclusivity, support, and accessibility for our state's children and their families. "A statewide, user-friendly website, dhs.wi.gov/wiscway, and toll-free number, 877 WiscWay (877-947-2929), provide families with convenient, direct access to compassionate and knowledgeable children's resource guides.
After 2+ years of having the waiting room closed due to COVID, we are excited to announce the waiting room is now open and you are free to wait indoors while your child or loved one is receiving therapy services. We will have a new look and promote activities for you and your child to relax and connect with while you wait for your therapist.
Fall Technology Free Challenge!
We invite all families to participate in alternative activities while in the waiting room for our technology free waiting room challenge! During the months of September and October, No technology use (cell phones, iPads, lap-tops etc) will be encouraged in our waiting room. If you absolutely need to use a device, you are free to do so in your car or in the outdoor spaces.
Why Technology Free?
Current research shows technology use impacts parent child relationships and can affect attachment, attention, mood, trust, and feelings of safety and comfort. As a clinic that promotes health and well-being, we would like to encourage opportunities for families to disconnect from technology and connect to self and others.
Read here for more information: https://www.effectiveschoolsolutions.com/mental-health-articles/social-media-effects-mental-health
Give us your feedback!
At the end of October, we will be gathering your feedback as to how the technology-free environment in the waiting room has impacted on your family.
Wellness activities to do instead of technology use:
1)Walk our outdoor labyrinth or sensory path
2) Sit in the healing garden and enjoy the fall colors
3) Read a book (recommended books will be available)
4) Read to your children (bookshelf with children’s books available)
5) Play a game (games are located in the entrance) *Please be sure to return the games to the cabinet when done playing.
