How Does Chronic Inflammation Cause Pain?
Chronic inflammation is a long-term, persistent inflammation that can have widespread effects on the body, including causing significant pain. Unlike acute inflammation, which is the body’s immediate response to injury or infection, chronic inflammation lingers, often silently, and can lead to ongoing discomfort and various health problems.

Traditional Chinese Medicine is a medical system thousands of years old and incorporates many different modalities. TCM theory emphasizes that Mother Nature provides the right kind of food for the right kind of environment. For instance, if the weather is cold, then warming, nutrient-dense foods are best for the body. Likewise, when summer rolls around, it is best to partake of cooling foods and foods abundant during this season.

Migraines affect about 10% of people worldwide. Anyone who suffers from migraines can tell you, as far as headaches go, migraines are in a class of their own. In general, migraines tend to be one-sided with severe pain, but what differentiates a migraine from other headaches are the accompanying symptoms that can include visual disturbances, loss of appetite, nausea, vomiting, even temporary paralysis. Western medicine subdivides and categorizes migraines based on symptomatology.

Chronic pain affects millions worldwide, impacting daily life and overall well-being. In Traditional Chinese Medicine (TCM), pain is viewed as a disruption in the flow of Qi (pronounced “chee”), the body’s bio-electricity. When Qi becomes blocked or imbalanced, pain arises. Unlike Western medicine, which often focuses on symptom management, TCM seeks to address and eliminate the root cause of pain. Acupuncture, a cornerstone of TCM, offers a holistic approach to relieving chronic pain. By inserting thin needles into specific points along acupuncture channels, acupuncture aims to to communicate to the body in it’s own language to restore balance to the circulation of bio-electricity, promoting healing and alleviating pain. Research suggests that acupuncture stimulates the release of endorphins, the body’s natural painkillers, creates an inflammation cascade which can regulate the inflammatory response and acts to quicken healing time, and regulates neurotransmitters to quickly reduce pain perception.

About River Point
My Story...
The number one question I get asked is: “What made you decided to become an acupuncturist?” It’s true, Acupuncture is definitely a unique choice for a career, but for me however, it was a “no-brainer.”
Many acupuncturists get into their careers through amazing personal experiences they have had with the medicine. They might have had a severe injury or illness and acupuncture was the one thing they could rely on more than any other medical approach.
This has inspired many acupuncture careers and it makes for a great story of hope for many people, but that’s not what happened with me. In fact, I can count on one hand the amount of acupuncture treatments I had received when I started my Masters in Acupuncture.
