Did you know that garlic has anti-viral, anti-bacterial, and anti-fungal properties? It also supports your immune system, cardiovascular system, and your gastrointestinal system! Phewwww. She's busy! Let's dive in and learn more ๐
Garlic, or allium sativum, is part of the onion family. It has many beneficial properties, mostly due to a compound in it called Allicin. Allicin plays a role in many benefits seen with garlic supplementation including reducing blood pressure and LDL cholesterol. It's also what's responsible for garlic's anti-viral, anti-bacterial, and anti-fungal properties!
Garlic is also high in anti-oxidants, which help destroy free radicals that can damage cell membranes and DNA. Keeping your DNA and cell integrity intact helps promote healthy aging.
Be mindful that for some people, such as those with GERD or someone taking blood thinners, that increasing garlic intake may have negative reactions. Please remember to consult with your physician before starting any new supplement :)
Questions? Curious about garlic? Stop in and ask Dr. Carolyn!

Supplement Spotlight: Methyl Renew!
Methylation is when your body attaches a hydroxyl group (an oxygen and 3 hydrogens) onto specific parts of your DNA. When you lose that hydroxyl group it becomes demethylated.
Methylation is important for regulating genes and making sure they are not being copied when they shouldn't be. That's because we do not want or need all of our genes to be "on" all of the time. We need certain genes to turn off, and others to turn off permanently!
In addition to this, methylation also helps support embryonic and placenta growth! ๐คฐ
Have questions about Methyl Renew? Stop in and ask Dr. Carolyn about it to see if it's the right fit for you!

Did you know that chiropractic adjustments can help ear infections? We often see kiddos with chronic ear infections come in and see huge improvements after starting regular care! Do you know someone who could benefit? Let them know :)
Magnesium is a hot topic in the health realm lately. The body uses magnesium in over 300 processes including regulating muscle and nerve function, blood sugar levels, and blood pressure and making protein, bone, and DNA. Magnesium comes in many different forms including citrate, malate, glycinate, and more. Each form has its own benefits and is used slightly differently within the body.
Magnesium glycinate, which we have in the office, is often used to help muscles relax and improve sleep. It is also commonly used to help manage stress and/or anxiety.
It's not uncommon for someone to be deficient in magnesium. Factors that can deplete your magnesium levels or reduce absorption of it include high and/or chronic stress levels, sugar, and alcohol.

Your liver is a large organ located in your upper right quadrant, just under your right rib cage. It's involved in multiple areas of your health including everything from detox and metabolism, to storage and digestion! It is involved in endless processes and functions in the body, and they believe there are even more processes it's involved in that we don't know about yet. In fact, they often say "1,000 things we know it does, 1,000 more we don't know about yet."
With all your liver does for you, it's important to keep it healthy and strong. Here, we have outlined just a few things your liver does. There are many, MANY more things we didn't include here, but these are the most common ones you hear about.
Do any of these liver functions surprise you? Let us know in the comments below!
New week, new opportunities! We're excited to see you in the office this week!
It's easy to let stress pile on every day, but it's important to take time for YOU to relax and unwind. Chronic stress can have negative health impacts such as decreased immune function and difficulty sleeping, which can lead to being chronically sick, fatigue, and pain. And no one wants that! This weekend, take time for YOU. Sleep in, exercise, read a book, drink extra water, spend time with your loved ones, enjoy the sun, and put yourself first. You can't pour from an empty cup๐ป

Let's chat about Lysine this week!
Lysine is an essential amino acid that our body uses as the building blocks for protein, hormones, enzymes, and immune cells. It's "essential" because the body cannot make lysine on its own, so you need to obtain it through your diet instead.
This amino acid is involved in a lot of processes in the body, but one of its commonly reported benefits is that it speeds up wound healing by speeding up new tissue growth. It's also involved in collagen creation- which lays the foundation for many new tissues in the body! People often taken Lysine to help with canker sores, stress and anxiety management, and to help the body absorb calcium.
Most people get enough lysine in their diet because it's found in red meats, pork, poultry, cheese (specifically parmesan!), cod, beans, and eggs. However, some people like athletes, burn patients, vegans or vegetarians, or those who frequently get cold sores may be lacking in this essential amino acid. Curious if you could benefit from this? Ask Dr. Carolyn about it during your next visit!
If there is a subluxation (or multiple subluxations!) between the levels of T1 to T6, how might your lungs be impacted? ๐ค
Research continually shows us that positive thinking can have a profound effect on our life. From manifesting our goals to improving our health, positive thoughts can have endless impact in our life.
In fact, Harvard conducted a cohort study on nurses and they found that more optimistic women tended to report more physical activity and a lower prevalence of high blood pressure, high cholesterol, and type 2 diabetes, and a substantially lower prevalence of depression. That's a lot of benefits!
While staying optimistic can be challenging at times, this study from Harvard shows us the power of mindset. Have a fabulous day!
Here's the Harvard cohort study for anyone interested :)

Happy first day of the Paris Olympics! While we might not all be Olympians, we can definitely all prioritize our health like one ๐ช Dr. Carolyn likes to get adjusted weekly and spend her extra time in the sun soaking up vitamin D while golfing ๐๐ผโโ๏ธJenn makes sure to get high quality sleep and spends time with her family and friends to refill her cup ๐ฅฐ Danielle can be found relaxing in nature or on the lake, or cranking out a workout at the gym ๐๏ธโโ๏ธ What are some of your favorite ways to keep your health a focus in your daily life? Let us know in the comments!
Let's talk about fish oils ๐
Most people have heard of Omega- 3, 6, and 9. These are polyunsaturated fatty acids ("PUFAs") that the body needs. These are considered "essential" fatty acids because the body cannot make these on its own. To make up for this you need to acquire them through your diet.
Omega-3, 6, and 9 are types of heathy fats that help with brain health, cardiovascular health, joints, and inflammation in the body.
The ideal ratio of omega 6 fats to omega 3 fats is generally around 1:1 or 2:1, however, those following a Western diet- a diet heavy in processed foods, saturated fat, and refined carbohydrates- eat far more omega 6's than omega 3's, throwing the ratio off. This is because refined vegetable oils such as soybean oil, corn oil, and safflower oil are really high in omega 6, which can promote inflammation in the body! ๐ฅ Some inflammation in the body is necessary, but chronically high inflammation levels can cause problems.
The good news is that EPA and DHA are both omega-3's! They are found primarily in fatty fish, hence the name "fish oils." ๐
We sell EPA-DHA in our office. Come chat with Dr. Carolyn about it to learn more! ๐ง
Cross body exercise patterns help to keep your brain healthy ๐ง Things like bird-dogs, dead bugs, or standing and touching your right knee to your left elbow and left knee to right elbow can help you to strengthen your brain by improving communication between the left and right hemispheres ๐ค It even helps with retaining new information (for all of our students!) and with brain development in babies and young children!
