Happy Labor Day weekend everyone!
A few cakes I made this past week:
First, long-time friends Charlotte, and her Mom, Ms. Sybil celebrated their birthdays. Charlotte ordered a Limoncello cake for her Mom. Limoncello is an Italian liqueur made from vodka and lemons. This cake is full of lemon flavor and the frosting is made from Mascarpone, whipping cream, and lemon curd, then topped with white chocolate shavings! Hope your birthday was great Ms. Sybil!
For Charlotte, she wanted a Vanilla-Almond cake for her birthday. This is what would be called the “traditional wedding cake flavor” with the buttercream frosting also flavored with Vanilla-Almond. It’s great for weddings, birthdays, or just ANY occasion. This also happened to be Charlotte’s last week before heading into retirement from the Postal Service. Happy Birthday Charlotte, and Happy Retirement!
Another friend, Angela, wanted a classic yellow cake with Chocolate Frosting. She also gave me permission to do whatever I wanted with the decorations on top.
Lastly, my cousin Ginger had an 80th birthday party for her Dad (my uncle). I made another Vanilla-Almond cake for his celebration. Happy Birthday Uncle Paul!

Wow, hard to believe it's the last week of August!

My long-time friend AND hair stylist Wendy asked me to make an Almond-Vanilla Cake and 2-dozen Almond-Vanilla cupcakes for her parents 60th wedding anniversary. For those who may not know, Almond-Vanilla is the traditional 'wedding cake' flavor, but it's also good for anniversaries, birthdays or just because!

Happy mid-week everyone,

Yes it's early, (but really it's not) to start planning for Christmas baking season! Can you believe it? Christmas is only 4 months away!

This year, I'm thinking of offering up some special items, including some sample pictures here (from Pinterest) - Melted Snowman Chocolate Chip Cookie; Holly Cupcakes (any flavor); and Santa Cake (any flavor). Let me know what you think - like these? Want to see something else added?

I'm still planning to offer the classic Christmas treats like Red Velvet Cake, Christmas Tree Brownies, Oreo truffles, etc.

Hope everyone has had a great weekend!

Here are a couple of cakes I make this past week.

First, a Caramel Cake for friends Charles & Patti to celebrate both their birthdays AND their anniversary! What's not to love about this cake with a homemade caramel sauce (butter, brown sugar and heavy whipping cream) mixed inside the cream cheese frosting, then drizzled on top? Hope your birthdays and anniversary were great!

Next, my friend Denise wanted a Vanilla Almond cake with vanilla almond buttercream frosting (classic "Wedding Cake" flavor that is great for any occasion!) for her Mom's birthday. I hope Ms. Sarah's celebration was great! Oh ... and be sure to visit Denise & her husband Drew Ole Hickory BBQ for some great barbeque and as Matt says - the best wings around!

Hi all - this is Matt. Since I'm not a Facebook guy, I'm asking Mona to post the following for me.

36 years ago today (July 23, 1988), I was blessed by God when Mona said "I do" to me at First Baptist Church in Madison.

Where has the time gone? It seems like it was just yesterday. I know I would do it all over again (hopefully Mona would too!). What a great ride we've had - here's to 36 more!

Happy Thursday everyone!

This past weekend was great fun for me, and I was honored to make cakes and other sweet treats for some folks.

My cousin Ginger asked me to make some goodies for a little girl's baby shower - dinosaur shaped decorated sugar cookies, and vanilla and chocolate cupcakes with dinosaur decorations. Really fun and cute! Great idea for a baby shower.

My neighbors David and Lisa wanted a Limoncello Cake for Lisa's mom's birthday. Limoncello is an Italian liqueur. The cake has lots of lemony flavor and covered with a fluffy frosting made of whipped cream, lemon curd, and mascarpone cheese and white chocolate shavings on top. I hope Lisa's mom had a wonderful and blessed birthday (her parents are awesome)!

Happy weekend everyone! Sharing the making of my first-ever Chantilly Cake.

Our long-time friend Karen wanted one for her birthday and I was happy to oblige.

There are several recipes for Chantilly cakes, the one I chose is the classic vanilla sponge, and the frosting is made from mascarpone, heavy cream, and cream cheese - whipped up until it's light and fluffy. In between each layer (and the top of the cake) is a mixture of strawberries, raspberries, blueberries and blackberries. A colorful refreshing summer cake! Happy Monday everyone! I don't post everything I make, but thought I'd share a couple of things I did last week for some folks at church.

First, Jessica's daughter Braelyn turned 15 this past week and Jessica wanted a Vanilla Cake with Vanilla Frosting with pastel colored flowerettes. Thanks Jessica, I hope Braelyn had a great birthday!!!!

Next, Lana wanted a German Chocolate Cake for her Dad's birthday. Traditional German Chocolate has the egg custard filling (with pecans & coconut) in between the layers and on top and "naked" on the sides. They love chocolate, so we went with the filling as planned, with chocolate buttercream on the sides! Thanks Lana, I hope your Dad's birthday was great!!!

Lastly--- I got some new cupcake pans, so decided to experiment with some Patriotic cupcakes with Vanilla and Chocolate frosting!

Hope everyone is having a great week! A few recent items:

Our friend Connie's twin granddaughters Emerson & Elia celebrated their first birthday and she asked me to make strawberry cupcakes for the grownups. Connie's daughter Alex picked out such cute toppers for the cupcakes (thanks for the picture Connie)! Happy Birthday Emmie & Ellie!

Another friend ... Angie (we remember when she was born!) is now married and her son Cooper just had his first birthday. Angie wanted Vanilla cupcakes and a Strawberry Cake with Vanilla Frosting (Strawberry frosting in between the layers - yum!) Angie also had awesome toppers for the cupcakes & cake. (Thanks to Angie's parents - and Cooper's grandparents - Tom & Penny for the pictures). Happy Birthday Cooper!

Lastly, a while back I made a hummingbird cake for Cheryl. She loves butterflies, so the I made the cake with butterflies on it. Cheryl reached out recently and wanted another one just like it. Picture of the most recent one is below. Thanks Cheryl --- hope y'all enjoyed it!

Thanks Penny, it was my pleasure to be a part of Cooper's first birthday!

Happy Wednesday everyone! Been a while since I've posted, so here's a few of the things I've made recently:

My friends Kim & Phillip celebrated their 50th anniversary (Happy 50th!) and I made their cake - a vanilla-almond cake with vanilla-almond buttercream frosting - the "traditional" wedding cake flavor. I shared Kim's post back then.

Keith, a friend from church saw it and wanted one just like it for his parents 50th anniversary this past weekend. Happy 50th Gary & Sherry!

A couple of birthday cakes ... our neighbor David got his annual Chocolate Cake for his 50th Birthday. A choc-o-holics dream - moist chocolate cake with chocolate buttercream frosting. Since it was his 50th, he got a bonus of Caramel M&M's on top!

Another friend from church --- Mr. Tom got his annual Hummingbird Cake for his birthday (29, again?). Hummingbird Cake has pineapple, bananas and pecans in the cake and a rich cream cheese frosting. This cake weighs almost 10 pounds!

Longtime friend Jenni requested a White Chocolate Raspberry cake for her daughter-in-law's birthday. The cake had raspberry filling and the White Chocolate Buttercream frosting. This frosting tasted awesome!

Lastly, I've made two Limoncello cakes recently. One for my friend Stacy and one for A Lady Baking's chief taster (my husband Matt!). Limoncello is an Italian liqueur made from lemons & vodka. The cake is light & fluffy and the frosting is made with whipping cream, lemon curd and mascarpone.

Success! I've just completed the ServSafe Food Handler training and am Re-Certified through April 2027 by the Alabama Department of Health to bake and sell items from my home. By taking the training, I agreed to follow all safe food prep and cleaning practices.

Happy 50th anniversary to my long-time friends Harley & Pat! Pat's sister, Debbie (another dear friend) asked me to make the anniversary cake for their celebration.

I had no idea then, but God had incredible plans for us - and Matt and I were married 4 years later (July 1988). Matt - still love you more than ever, and what Fun we've had. We are still a handsome couple 🥰😘

Happy FIRST birthday Miles! My long-time dear friend Stacy (Miles' grandmother), reached out to me a few months ago to start planning for Miles first birthday party. The theme was Western (Miles' first rodeo!)

The cakes were a Chocolate Cake with 3-color pulled dot decoration, and a Vanilla Cake with cactus decoration. Also, I made Cowboy Hats made from Pringles chips/Rolos/Twizzlers, and Haystacks Candy made from butterscotch chips/peanuts/chow mein noodles (on an adorable cowboy boot shaped tray).

A couple of cakes from earlier this week. My sweet friend Tina (pronounced Ty-na) got her annual Coconut Cake for her birthday! The ultimate Coconut cake full of coconut flavor and made with fluffy marsh-mallowy frosting then covered with coconut flakes! Hope your birthday was great Tina!

Ms. Sarah requested a Limoncello cake a few weeks ago and it was delivered on April 1st (no fooling!) Limoncello is the Italian liqueur made with vodka and lemons. Ms. Sarah even provided the Limoncello --- a small bottle that she had gotten in Italy, and it was just the right amount for the cake. The Limoncello cake is full of lemon flavor, and the frosting is made with lemon curd, mascarpone, and whipped cream ... then topped with white chocolate shavings.

Both Penny & Rebecca wanted Strawberry Cakes (double yum!) Rebecca also wanted some Easter cookies for her grandchildren ... they were decorated to look like bunnies and chicks.

Hope everyone is having a GOOD FRIDAY and you have a Happy Easter weekend! Matt here taking over my better-half's baking account for a moment.

Mona has been hard at it decorating some Easter cookies (they are bunnies and chicks) -- if you look at the first picture, you'll be able to figure them out.

She had 2 cookies that weren't exactly perfect after baking, so I took the opportunity to decorate them myself. I hope you'll enjoy the intricate detail in my decorating technique. Do I have a future in decorating? Probably not!

I'll leave the baking and decorating the professional. Another two fun cakes this weekend! My new friend Cheryl just celebrated her 70th birthday (Happy Birthday Cheryl!) and she had an English Tea Party catered by our mutual friend Jennifer Cleary of Dirt Road Brit on Wi******er Road.

Cheryl wanted two cakes to go along with her Tea Party ---- A Red Velvet Cake decorated on top with butterflies (Cheryl loves butterflies!) and hearts. The other one was a Hummingbird Cake - made with bananas, pineapple, and pecans and it was also topped with butterflies.

Made a couple of fun cakes this week! My friend Mary celebrated her birthday and wanted a Vanilla-Almond cake (the traditional 'wedding cake' flavor that is great ANYTIME!) with Vanilla-Amond buttercream frosting and colorful flower swirls.

Mary also wanted the Double Chocolate (choco-holic) cake for her grandson. This is chocolate, chocolate and more chocolate! Moist chocolate cake, Chocolate buttercream frosting and Dark Chocolate shavings on top!
