A decade-long, $40 million NSF investment is propelling Alabama to national prominence in plasma science and engineering. With pioneering research at The University of Alabama in Huntsville with other FTPP partner universities, Alabama is set to become a Southeastern hub for plasma innovation, creating high-tech jobs and transformative technologies.

“Plasma science and engineering has the potential to transform many areas of modern society,” says Dr. Sandra Richardson, section head for the Research Capacity and Competitiveness Section in the Office of Integrative Activities at the U.S. National Science Foundation.

The NSF EPSCoR Future Technologies & Enabling Plasma Processes (FTPP) Summer 2024 Internship Programs are now open!

Our internships are offered to all STEM majors, enrolled full-time in a higher education institution in the southeastern U.S. Applications will close on February 16th, 2024.

Our Internship Programs:

• RIPP - Regional Introduction to Plasma Physics - 9-week paid summer research internship program hosted at an FTPP institution. Gain hands-on research experience fostering lasting connections between students in the southeastern U.S. and investigators based in Alabama.

It’s time to ELEVATE your Science and Engineering Fair Project!

We are happy to announce a partnership between the Alabama Science and Engineering Fair and DataClassroom. The DataClassroom web-app is a tool for graphing, statistics, and data analysis in the grade 6-12+ science and math classroom -- perfect for helping students choose appropriate graphs and statistical tests for their science fair projects. This partnership is offering up to two free DataClassroom licenses at each school in the state of Alabama for teachers mentoring Science Fair students.
