In the month of August, 204 years ago, Alabamaโs first constitution was signed, ending the Constitutional Convention.
๐ On August 2nd, 1819, forty-four delegates from across the Alabama Territory met in a vacant cabinet shop in downtown Huntsville to sign the document. Later that year, on December 14th, President James Monroe admitted Alabama as the 22nd state to the Union. A replica of the cabinet shop currently stands as part of Alabama Constitution Hall Park.

Juneteenth is the commemoration of the emancipation of the enslaved in Galveston, TX on this date in 1865, more than two years after the Emancipation Proclamation. Today, we honor the courage, hope, progress, and resiliency of the Black community in the struggle for justice and the creation of a more equitable America.
