Be A Scout Home Page - Boy Scouts of America 08/25/2023

I think the heat the last few days and other activities caused a lot of people not to get to the schools where they were signing kids up for Scouting. Did you know that you can ask for information or even sign your boy or girl up for Scouting from wherever you are at? To do so, go here. It will give you the list of all the units near you and who to contact. How easy is that??? There are units for both boys and girls. Also, check this article out about the benefits Scouting provides: https://scoutsmarts.com/value-benefits-of-scouting/

During popcorn season, you do what you have to do! Squeezing in some final bags for one of our units. Who needs boxes anyway!?

Good luck to all of our units selling this weekend! Get a “pop” start on those goals!

08/18/2023

Popcorn season has begun! Monon partnered with our neighbor, Fall Creek, to ensure that units in both districts have the resources (and product!) they need to be successful! Thank you to our amazing sorting crew who prepared the orders. And a huge thank you to SMC for allowing us to use their warehouse for distribution. Pick up for most units is tomorrow. Scouts will be “popping up” at a store near you soon!

2022 Ransburg Camp Staff - Positions Still Open

Dear Scout Leader,

We are still looking to fill several positions for camp this upcoming summer at Ransburg Scout Reservation. Would you be willing to send this email out to Scouts and parents of Scouts in your Troop?

Serving on summer camp staff is a defining experience for many Scouts and one that helps to solidify the skills learned over their entire Scouting experience - all in one summer.

2022 Application Link - Click Here

We have the following positions available:

Aquatics Counselor

Sports Counselor

Scoutcraft Counselor

Firecrafter Instructor

Eagle Quest Counselor

ATV Course Instructor

Counselor in Training (15)

Commissioner (18+)

Ranger Officer (18+)

Ranger Staff (18+)

Health Officer (18+)

Why should you want Scouts in your Troop to work on camp staff? Staff members frequently say it was the best summer of their lives. Decades later they often still believe it was "the best job they ever had". Current youth who work on camp staff will return to your Troop at the end of the summer as stronger leaders with a newfound enthusiasm for the Scouting program. If that's not reason enough, here's a quick video from the American Camp Association touting the benefits of working on camp staff. Why work on Ransburg Scout Reservation staff in particular; click here for a fun video that tells you why!

We appreciate your help to get the word out by forwarding this email to the Scouts/Leaders/Parents in your Troop. Ransburg is able to offer one of the most diverse program offerings in the country. That unparalleled experience is possible because of our camp counselors and staff, and we thank you for helping us to find the next great camp counselor.

Frequently Asked Questions:

The summer camp season is 8 weeks long, however staff members can take time off for Philmont, family vacations, summer camp, or for other reasons.

Minimum age is 15 years old: Scouts who are 15 serve as a Counselor in Training; an excellent tailored experience where they rotate around to program areas of their choosing throughout the summer.

Should a college student choose working on camp staff over an internship? Well this article makes a compelling argument.

I don’t have any training to be a camp counselor! We provide all of the training you need, including skill and area specific training. This occurs leading up to the summer and during our staff training week.

Questions? Reach out to [email protected].

Camp Kikthawenund, and Camp Belzer: If you are looking for a camp counselor role closer to home, both of our other Council Camps are also hiring for the summer, and are in need of camp staff! Application links for other CAC camps can be found at this link. For questions regarding other council camps please call the Crossroads of America Council at 317.813.7125.

Yours in Scouting,

March 22nd is Crossroads of America Councils Day of Giving, meaning all donations in the month of March will count towards the day of giving. Spreading the message far and wide with your scouting networks is KEY to making an even greater impact on Day! With that in mind we have created a special Ambassador program for individuals interested in making the month of March a huge success for scouting and the Crossroads of America Council.

What is an ambassador and what do they do?
An ambassador is not only passionate about scouting but is someone willing to help promote Give2CAC Day through a variety of platforms. These are individuals willing to get the word out by emailing, sharing, and posting on social media what they love most about scouting and the impact that is had on their family.

What will ambassadors receive to Promote Give2CAC Day?
Ambassadors will receive special tools to help promote the bid day such as: social media graphics, sample emails, sample social media templates, and behind the scenes updates.

How can you sign up to become an ambassador and receive all these materials?
To learn more about becoming an ambassador, or to register and receive all the resources you might need, click here: www.give2cac.org/22ambassador
Thank you for being a dedicated Scouter and helping us promote Day!

Please join me in welcoming Tucker LaPrade, who will begin serving as Monon District Director on April 1st!

Tucker began his BSA career in 2012 as a District Executive and then Sr. District Executive for the Central Wyoming Council, now the Adventure West Council in Casper, WY. He had previously served on staff for their Camp Buffalo Bill as Aquatics Director for two summers and Program Director for two summers.

In 2016, Tucker moved to the Crossroads of America Council as Program Director. He was promoted to Director of Camping and Program in 2018. After more than a year in that role, Tucker found that he missed unit service, so he requested to return to the field team. He became Pathfinder District Director in 2019 where he has had much success since.

Tucker and his wife Anna have four children. His oldest son, Henry, is a Scout in Monon Troop 72, and his two younger sons, Isaac and George, are Cub Scouts in Monon Pack 72. His youngest son, Freddy, will be a Lion next year.

We look forward to working with Tucker, along with Liv and Emma, to deliver a great scouting program in Monon District!
