Opportunities don't have to be big, entrepreneurial, or visionary.
Opportunities are everywhere.
While there is nothing wrong with the big ones, practice finding the small ones. Ask yourself,
What opportunities do I see around me right now?
Having trouble seeing any? Consider these:
Maybe you can right a wrong or apologize.
Maybe you can offer a hand.
Maybe you can encourage someone.
Maybe you can send a thank you note or email.
Maybe you can start the book on your nightstand.
When you start looking for opportunities, you will see more of them – both big ones and small ones.
And once you see them, you can choose to act on them!

How flexible are you…
On processes?
On ideas?
On approaches?
On opinions?
Chances are you want flexible people on your team.
But how flexible are you?
In a world that is complicated, changing, and full of uncertainty, flexibility is more valuable than ever.
Let that question marinate in your mind today.
If you don't like your answer, there's something for you to keep thinking about – and acting on.

At this time of year, there is much written and talked about the importance of reflecting and learning from what you have done. I am a fan of this activity and have written to you about it often.
But I am also a fan of action.
Of deciding and doing.
Of crossing important (not just urgent) things from the list.
So, in this end of year message, I will keep it short.
What will you do today?

One of a leader's most important roles is setting boundaries. That often means saying, "No." If we're not careful, though, that can cause us to miss out on opportunities. Here are 5 benefits from saying, "Yes" more often.
5 Reasons to Say 'Yes' More Often - Remarkable TV - The Kevin Eikenberry Group In our journey through life, both personal and professional, we're often faced with choices that prompt a simple yet profound decision: to say 'Yes' or 'No.' While there's wisdom in careful consideration and sometimes in refusal, I've found that saying 'Yes' more often can lead to remarkable growth....

From our team to you and your family, wishing you a wonderful Christmas Day.
I'm dreaming of a White Christmas,
Just like the ones I used to know.
Where the treetops glisten,
And children listen,
To hear sleigh bells in the snow.
I am dreaming that dream, for I love snow, and not just on Christmas. This year (and too many others) for me in Central Indiana, it will only be a dream.
But I do know that before I go to bed tonight, I will have watched the movie White Christmas with my family – singing the songs, and likely, with my daughter Kelsey, repeating many of the lines.
I have bigger and more important dreams than snow on Christmas morning, but in this season, who is to really judge the bigger or better dreams?
I wish you dreams and hopes today, tomorrow, and every day.
And from our team to you and your family, we wish you the Happiest of Holidays and a very Merry Christmas.

I don't post much here these days. But I hope you like the poem I wrote this morning...
*The Best Present to Give (and Give Yourself)*
At Christmas much thought, time and effort are spent finding the right gift for the people on your list. Here is, in poem form, my perfect solution to this annual challenge…
It works whether your account is full,
Or a look in your wallet finds nothing to pull.
Don’t worry of money when choosing this gift,
For getting it will leave no one miffed.
It really is the best suggestion of all,
It works for those short and tall.
It doesn’t require wrapping.
It doesn’t require shopping.
There’ll be no problems with style or size,
It will be wonderful in everyone’s eyes.
It even works for every age,
From the very young to the gray and sage.
You can even give it every year,
And doing so will always bring cheer.
What is this magical gift to share?
The present of your presence, if you dare.
Your presence I say, but what do I mean?
To be focused on them 100% when you convene.
Listen to them and their stories,
Let them tell their concerns and glories!
Make the time about them,
No judgement; don’t condemn.
Your full presence to them will show,
That they are important - it will make them glow!
But this present isn’t just one to put under their tree,
But give it to yourself too, it’s awesome you’ll see.
Be present with others is really so true,
But be present for yourself and you’ll have a new view.
What do I mean, being present for yourself?
It means taking time and putting distractions on the shelf.
Enjoy the moments - the family, and friends – every endeavor,
And take mental movies you’ll remember forever!
If you find yourself alone, hard as it might be,
This can still be your gift under the tree.
And before the bell drops and the calendar turns,
Think of what you’ve learned, and where your heart yearns.
Reflect on your year - your lessons and proud times,
Consider the gratitude your heart defines.
You’ve looked back look forward too,
Thinking of the things you now want to do.
The present of time and focus is the best gift you see.
Your presence is better than anything under the tree.
With apologies to Mariah Carey and her song, All I Want for Christmas, here is what I want for Christmas for you…
I would really like you …
… to commit to your leadership walk in 2024.
… to spread your vision for learning and improvement with others.
… to engage with us in ways that we could meaningfully help you, your team, and your organization.
While Mariah sings, "I don't want a lot for Christmas…," I am asking for a lot.
I want you to commit, I want you to invest, and I want you to grow.
I know that you will make those decisions, and I know our team stands ready to help you individually, and your organization collectively, in nurturing the development of your leaders.
We are here to help. And if you use the start of the year to make those commitments and investments, reach out to us. We are here to listen and help you solidify those plans – whether we are ultimately part of your solution, or just your trusted consultant to help you figure out what your solution is.
