Recreational Pool Updates!!

Many of you have been asking how our scheduled maintenance in the Recreational Pool has been going, so we are here to give an update.

We are showing here weeks 1-4 to show the gradual progress of where we were and where we are. So many things going on behind the scenes in addition to everything you see here.

Our Week Four update this week:

The recreational pool is starting to look like a pool again rather than a beach. A lot of work was done this week. Sandblasting finished up. Sandblasting revealed about a dozen small concrete repairs that needed to be done. These wouldn’t have been found without sandblasting and we were able to get them fixed before they became a larger issue. We also were able to inspect our main drains and make sure they are in perfect condition.

Cleaning up all of the sand and power washing the entire rec pool area- including the windows, was quite a task. Once the sand was cleaned up, the crew got to work acid washing the pool. Acid washing etching the top surface so that the new fresh paint has something to stick to.

Finally, the painting began. The fumes were a bit heavier than we had anticipated causing us to have to close the comp pool for a few days- sorry about that. After numerous coats of white paint, it was time to repaint all the black lines. The crew added additional texture to the steps and ramps to ensure that they are not slippery.

What’s next? Paint must cure for 5-7 days prior to refilling the pool. So next week, the crew will be focused on tearing apart the filter and completely rebuilding it. A new heat exchanger will be installed in the surge tank so that our rec pool no longer has the temperature dips like it has in the past.

Terry will be working to reinstall all the benches. He spent a lot of time getting these nice and smooth and they look brand new!

Once the heaters are good to go and the filter is rebuilt, we can start to refill. The refill process will take about a week to get the chemicals correct, and the temperature back up to 89 degrees. We are on pace to open July 8th 😊

Thanks again for your patience as we are working on the pool. We have learned a lot about this process and things we can do in the future to keep our pools operating more efficiently.

The IWC Competition Pool will be reopening tomorrow, Wed June 12 regular hours with regularly scheduled programming.

Important Update:
Due to paint fumes the IWC Competition Pool is closing at 1:15 pm today, Monday June 10 and will remain closed through Tuesday June 11. With this temporary closure there will not be Group exercise classes or Indianola Area Swim Club - Sea Turtles Summer Session Team Practice today or tomorrow. We apologize for any inconvenience this may cause and ask for your patience during this time. We are working to get things back to normal as soon as possible. Please watch for updates regarding reopening.

Yesterday, we had the honor of hosting Emily Tremel and the SOULstrength Instructor Training at the Indianola Wellness Campus! We had a great turnout of members attending the Masterclass and several of our amazing instructors attended the training to be certified in this *NEW* format. We can’t wait to bring this amazing class to you in the near future!!! Watch for announcements as to when it will be added!

As you may have seen by the notices posted throughout the complex, the Indianola Wellness Campus Recreational Pool will soon undergo routine maintenance that will impact availability and programming offered beginning Monday, May 20 through Sunday, July 7.

Regularly scheduled programming, like water exercise classes and other opportunities held in the recreational pool, will transition to the competition pool during this time frame.

We appreciate your understanding as we work to improve our facilities and ensure optimal safety, satisfaction and experiences for all of our valued Indianola Wellness Campus members. If you have any questions, feel free to reach out to us!

We will be closed on Monday, May 27, for Memorial Day. We will reopen at 5 a.m. on Tuesday, May 28.
