The City of Indianola is nearing completion of work at the intersection of Hillcrest Avenue and 14th Street, which is Phase 2B of the project. This intersection is expected to reopen next week.

Crews will continue to work on Hillcrest Avenue between 14th Street and the trail crossing (Phase 2A), aiming to be substantially completed and reopened to traffic by mid-July.

When Phase 2A is reopened, crews will begin Phase 3 of the project, working on Hillcrest Avenue between Ninth Street and the trail crossing. During this phase, the intersection of Ninth Street and Hillcrest Avenue will experience a change in traffic pattern due to the construction. Beginning in mid-July, only the west and south sides will be open to traffic. The north and east sides will be closed. Motorists traveling north from the south side can turn west, and drivers heading south from the west side can continue south.

An updated construction timeline, as well as the Summerset Trail access map that was previously shared, is included with this post.

Please continue adhere to all traffic signs and instructions while navigating through the construction, and please be cautious and courteous for the safety of workers and fellow road users. We appreciate your understanding and cooperation as we keep working toward the completion of this essential infrastructure project.

Due to unforeseen circumstances, the City of Indianola experienced a slight delay to starting the sanitary sewer improvements along East Franklin Avenue, which aims to replace the sanitary sewer line, add additional storm water drainage and replace pavement. The project will now begin on July 8.

Despite the delay, the project is still on schedule. The intersection of North 9th Street and East Franklin Avenue will reopen to traffic by August 9, before school resumes. Construction on the mid-block section of East Franklin Avenue, just west of North 9th Street, will continue until it is fully completed on September 27.

During this project, East Franklin Avenue and North 9th Street will be closed. Traffic will be detoured using East Euclid Avenue, North 15th Street and East Iowa Avenue, as reflected in the supporting visual aids.

Please adhere to all traffic signs and instructions while navigating through the construction, and please be cautious and courteous for the safety of workers and fellow road users. Please also note that the timeline is subject to change based on various factors, like weather conditions and unforeseen circumstances. We will share updates on our website and social media, as necessary.

We appreciate your understanding and cooperation as we continue to work towards the completion of this essential infrastructure project.
