There are many misconceptions about hospice care. In honor of World Hospice and Palliative Care Day, here are some fast facts about how hospice increases the patient's and family's quality of life.
- The majority of hospice patients have their pain well-managed.
- Hospice takes a holistic approach, addressing the psychological, spiritual, and emotional needs of the patient and their family.
- Studies show that patients enrolled in hospice live longer.
- Hospice allows patients to remain in their own environment, rather than a hospital.

When the body is at war with itself, it's difficult for its cells to carry on their normal, healthy processes. Fortunately, there are things you can do at home, without medications, to reduce the chance of inflammation and support a resolution to back to normal. https://iowacityhospice.org/reducing-and-resolving-chronic-inflammation/

2024 Fall Memorial and Butterfly Release - Iowa City Hospice
September is National Su***de Prevention Month. Su***de among older adults is more common than you think, especially among men over age 75 who are socially isolated and have health challenges. Be sure you know the signs and who to call if you believe that your loved one is contemplating self-harm. https://iowacityhospice.org/suicide-and-older-adults/
Here are some pictures from our butterfly release earlier this month! If you didn't have a chance to attend this year, we highly recommend coming next year! From the gorgeous venue to the butterflies taking flight, it was absolutely spectacular, and a beautiful reminder that we have an enduring connection to those that have passed.
