An R2 institution balancing superb teaching with high research activity
Alumna Dr. Caitlin Calhoun, Doctor of Pharmacy ’21, was recognized as a recipient of the 2024 Miltenyi Biotec Immunology Innovator Award for her work in improving pediatric patient outcomes of high risk leukemias through biomarker discoveries.

Since joining Chapman University in early 2021, Dr. Rachita Sumbria has made a significant impact on the advancement of women through impactful leadership. We are happy to announce that she was selected to receive the 2024 Woman of Distinction Award and represent Chapman University School of Pharmacy as one of twelve faculty, alumni, students, and staff to receive this honor.

The final numbers are in, and CUSP is proud to say we had a 81% overall ASHP PGY-1 Residency Match Rate! We are so proud of our gradating PharmD class for all they have accomplished. It's a great day to be a panther!

Dr. Rennolds Ostrom has been named Chapman University School of Pharmacy's dean, after serving as interim since June 2022.
“Dr. Ostrom is a skilled educator, an accomplished researcher and an effective administrator who embraces the philosophy of servant leadership,” says Chapman Provost Norma Bouchard. “He is fully committed to empowering each person on the team and looks forward to working with faculty, staff, students and fellow administrators.”

The news is out! Our PharmD Class of 2023 achieved historically high scores on the NAPLEX, with a first-time pass rate reaching 87.9%. This score places CUSP graduates at the second-highest all-time pass rate in California, and the third-highest first-time pass rate in the state.

In recognition of Mental Health Awareness Month, student leaders in our chapter of CSHP/ASHP created weeklong activities for all of the Rinker campus. We are so proud of our soon-to-be PharmD graduates who have successfully matched to 30 ASHP Postgraduate Year One and Year Two Residencies. Three of our incredible students have also secured fellowships. This success is a testament to their exceptional skills, research abilities, and passion for advancing the pharmacy profession through practice and discovery.
These results also speak volumes about the quality of education and training provided at CUSP. We believe in our rigorous curriculum, hands-on learning experiences, and dedication to nurturing the future leaders of the pharmacy field.

Ready for summer? Registration for CUSP's research summer program for high schoolers is OPEN!
In the program, students will:
-Practice evidence-based medicine
-Join a small-cohort group to get personalized guidance
-Work with a faculty advisor to complete a research project
-Learn how to write a research report and evaluate scientific literature critically
-Receive a letter of reference from the Chapman faculty (upon request)
Due to high demand, we have increased participant numbers from last year.
The program is from Monday, June 12 through Friday, July 1, 2023, and is a hybrid program with most of the programming being in-person.

Almost after a decade of foundational support to Chapman Pharmacy, LeAnne Daringer, our Senior Administrative Assistant, is retiring. As the second assistant staff hired at the college’s inception, she is the longest-standing member of our staff and has played an influential part in establishing our college's culture.
