Yesterday was the Day of the Construction Worker. Went to OSHA Fall Protection class with my main man. The Hispanic Roofing Contractors Association held it at Mountain View College. I got certified.
They kept trying to put me in the English class until I convinced them I could hang in Spanish.

Humidity, not heat, causes these blisters. Either there is not enough ventilation, or the Venturi from the bottom to the top is broken by a misplaced vent.
You cannot meet the manufacturers specifications or the building codes on ventilation if you put your exhaust fans just any old place. Think of a soda straw with a hole in it. Or a chimney with a hole in it.

If you see this on a roof you did, it is not your fault. Hot oil from an exploding transformer, not the movie type.

The reason there is siding on the back of this chimney is a building code. Masonry cannot be supported by Wood because of the weight. The brick on the sides go all the way to the ground. If the builder wanted bricks on the back side, he would have needed to take bricks from too to bottom or put steel beams to support it. Wood would bend under the weight.
Nevertheless, in the metroplex, there are plenty of masonry, chimneys, brick walls, and walls above double garage doors that do not have enough for any steel to support it.

When you don’t realze that the back of the chimney needs painting and neither does the painter.

Ventilation! Ventilation! Make sure your home is properly ventilated! What does that mean?
