The North Texas Commission had the privilege of touring After 8 to Educate's Fannie C. Harris Center in Dallas with Mayor Gordon of Balch Springs. This innovative and inspiring space has been a force of good in our community, and we are thankful they took the time to show us the ways they are serving local unsheltered youth.

Today as the world looks ahead to a new year, we will enter it without a legendary figure in North Texas, Hon. Eddie Bernice Johnson who passed away. The first black woman in Dallas to hold public office, she dedicated her life and her career to the betterment of her community. North Texas is better today because of her influence over the decades she served Dallas. We join with many others in mourning her loss and celebrating her life.

This morning we gathered school and business leaders for a fantastic breakfast meeting to discuss the future of workforce in Parker County. Thank you to Aledo Independent School District, Benbrook Area Chamber of Commerce, and East Parker County Chamber of Commerce for joining with us to ensure we are preparing the next generation of our Texas workforce.
