Hello everyone, I'm thrilled to announce that I've passed my PE Exam! It's been a journey since I took my EIT Exam in 1997, as I was a "little" rusty!

After my first failed attempt a year and a half ago, I knew right away what I needed to do. I was lost on the internet with so many YouTube videos and study guides and spent many hours after work until 7, 8, 9pm, plus Saturdays, and Sundays. It was those YouTube videos that led me to Zach and my success.

I highly recommend ⚡️Zach Stone, P.E. as he played a pivotal role in my success. His Premium On-Demand course was a blend of live classes, on-demand videos, quizzes, and tests; the random problem generator is one of a kind for this subject! His website offers a comprehensive learning and collaborative one-stop shop.

I would like to give a shout-out to all my sponsors, friends, family (Bethany Kangas - my rock), colleagues, Lucas Wright for study help, and Alejandro Espinoza, MScEE BScEE PMP CSSBB SMC SDC for all his encouragement and running Dillengr, Inc. while I prepared for this test.

If I had it all to do over again (please no!) I would only use Zach and his recommended references, website material, etc… Also, can I just say that Zach is a heck of a human with whom I plan to stay in touch!

Dillengr's High-Speed Approach to Hyperscaling:

As users and businesses move at lightning speed through the digital sphere, hyperscale data centers are playing a more crucial role in the world’s economy.

"Hyperscale data centers require massive amounts of power and need to stick to strict power usage effectiveness (PUE) standards. As the amount of physical infrastructure must increase to meet the demand for digital infrastructure, so too must the power supply, distribution model, control systems, and management systems." (Dilley).

Principle #2: Unified Solutions and Service...

Sometimes major changes need to be made after the final product - and that's exactly the case with this Data Center customer!

Last October, we designed, built, and tested a cabinet equipped to hold eight revenue-grade meters for this client. The data from the eight different loads were used to calculate their building efficiency (PUE). After several months, they decided to convert it into eight different cabinets. No problem!

Our dedicated production team is converting the original cabinet into eight individual meter cabinets. To reduce unnecessary waste and cost, it's pertinent that we preserve the wires and connections - given that they are still in great condition, of course.

Accommodating the smaller panel size required careful planning, ensuring proper spacing, and wiring raceways for component mounting. Thank you to our engineers and production team for all your hard work, dedication, and communication! Stay tuned for more updates as we finish these panels.

"Technology demonstrations show the machine's major components achieve the required performance," (Chu, MIT News).

researchers are creating a 1-megawatt motor that is lightweight and small in an effort to lessen aviation's carbon footprint. This represents a significant step toward electrifying larger aircraft, such as commercial airliners, as the motor's computationally tested mega wattage is already on par with small aero-engines in terms of size and weight. The motor will enable all-electric or hybrid propulsion systems when coupled with a battery, fuel cell, or conventional turbofan jet engine.

"This group's design uses a wonderful combination of conventional and cutting-edge methods for electric machine development, allowing it to offer both robustness and efficiency to meet the practical needs of aircraft of the future" (Ansel, Chu).

With these advancements propelling a future for electric aircraft, where would you see yourself flying off to?

When we say "Always On," we mean it! 💡

A utility outage left one of our out-of-state customer's MGG switchgear unable to transfer to generator power as programmed. This meant that manual operation was the only option, requiring a 24/7 onsite presence until resolved. Our customer called us and urgently requested an engineer. By 7 am the following morning, Lucas was on a flight to their site!

Upon arrival, it was discovered that the control components were dead, and the main control power circuit breaker was tripped. After a thorough investigation, we traced the issue to the building's EPO circuit, drawing excessive current. We disconnected the unnecessary EPO circuit, restoring the system's functionality.

The customer was pleasantly satisfied with our quick response and effective troubleshooting. With the system running automatically again, they no longer had to stay onsite 24/7. They were thrilled that we could provide an engineer on such short notice!

At Dillengr, we stand by our 24/7 commitment! We're always here to ensure peace of mind when it comes to site reliability.

"Transporting energy is costly" (Hancock, Phys.org)

Your laptops, phones, and other electronics generate heat because of the energy lost when currents flow through a conductor and run into resistance. This is a challenge for scientists looking for resistance-eliminating superconductors to prevent energy loss, which could significantly improve things like more efficient MRI machine computing and quantum computing. "[...] We thought about applying twisting to materials that have a peculiar form of superconductivity called nodal superconductivity" (Volkov, Hancock).

A team of UConn physicists led by Pavel Volkov and his colleagues demonstrates a solution using quantum particles known as quasiparticles to create a superconductor. They do this by slightly twisting very thin, stacked layers of regular superconductors, causing an intricate relation between the layers and the current that's applied in between. Volkov explains how the current-induced topological superconductor can be optimized at various angles, unlike alternative materials studied thus far. It's also expected to have the potential to be better than other topological superconductors on the market.

“Careful planning of charging station placement could lessen or eliminate the need for new power plants, a new study shows,” (Chandler, MIT News Office).

With the electrification of vehicles, more costly power plants are needed to satisfy the peak loads of evening charges after work days. In addition, pulling too much energy from solar farms creates waste in its valuable electricity-generating ability.

“MIT researchers have found that it’s possible to mitigate or eliminate both these problems[…]” (Chandler, MIT).

A few ways to alleviate this issue include strategically placing charging stations and enabling delayed charge times. This would also help to reduce costs and energy consumption.

Slow but power-efficient charging stations installed at workplaces could help methodically draw midday solar power, thus alleviating peak loads on the grid later in the day.

Do you think these are efficient solutions to this issue? Why or why not?

At Dillengr, we understand that a customer's needs can change at the drop of a dime, requiring adaptability and swift and efficient action.

One such example of this was when one of our customers requested a control panel modification in their pump station. During the installation, the customer asked for additional I/O cards to be installed.

Without modifying the components' original layout, we could plan, source, and install the cards quickly and properly and test them to meet the customers' desired installation date. Overall we received positive feedback from our customer, who was very impressed with our layout design and implementation!

"The traditional method when it comes to custom switchgear is to go to a standard manufacturer and obtain a quote with many specials. This option often seems the most reasonable but is seldom the best choice. Often, this method comes with more downsides than not, namely longer lead times and quality issues due to a lack of capabilities.

With a multitude of orders, many engineers, and a need to churn out a product as fast as possible, it can be nearly impossible to gain the attention required to design and build custom gear!

But it doesn’t have to be that way."

"A wireless technique enables a super-cold quantum computer to send and receive data without generating too much error-causing heat. (Zewe, MIT News Office)"

Quantum computers must be kept in refrigerators that can maintain a temperature just above absolute zero (-459°F). Otherwise, heat could corrupt the qubits, the fundamental blocks of quantum computing. More qubits means more cables—meaning more heat let in—so the size of a quantum system is limited by its ability to keep itself cool.

"MIT researchers [have] developed a wireless communication system that enables a quantum computer to send and receive data to and from electronics outside the refrigerator using high-speed terahertz waves."

This transceiver chip is placed inside the fridge, which allows a contactless terahertz connection to send and receive data through the glass pane. This chip can act as a tiny "mirror," reflecting terahertz waves to their source. This method can recover a significant portion of the power sent into the fridge, lowering the required power by a factor of ten compared to conventional metal cables.

With all these technological advancements, do you think quantum computers will be available to consumers any time soon?
