Last but not least we have Julie Schwartz!
Julie is such a committed player! She is always at Tibbits or Issaquah high practicing. Her and Malisa are an unstoppable duo that bested us all at doubles. Julie is so smart and an amazing tennis player, she never gives up on the ball and returns basically everything. We wish you the best in college and Issy girl’s tennis will miss you lots!
Our next senior highlight is Val Cifuentes-Sosa!
Val is an amazing tennis player and friend! I am so happy we got to play tennis together for three years! Whether it was on the court or off is an awesome friend to everyone on the team! She has killer serves that were basically impossible to return :) She inspired us all as captain and always brought the best snacks! Issaquah girls tennis will miss you lots and we hope you have the best time ever at WSU!
Our next senior highlight is Anna Jo!
Anna is my older sister and my best friend, and I will miss her so much next year. Even when I wasn’t on the tennis team, I went to almost all her matches because she is such a talented and poised tennis player. Anna gets to every ball, no matter how short the drop shot is. Both her backhand and forehand are a force to be reckoned with and it is no wonder that Anna played varsity singles since freshman year. Above all her insane tennis skills, Anna is the most caring and generous person I know. One day after a tennis match, I was feeling a little down after losing and instead of boasting about her win, she tried to cheer me up by telling me some bad jokes (they were very bad), but she made me feel better and put a smile on my face.
I am so excited for the future Anna has ahead of her. I am going to miss her so much next year when she leaves for Carnegie Mellon SCS. She is so hardworking and intelligent that she inspires me daily. I wholeheartedly believe Anna is going to achieve great things in the future.

As a senior on the varsity tennis team, I have enjoyed every experience I’ve gained the past 4 years on the team! I have loved practicing with everyone, playing matches, and competing in KingCo. The tennis team is where I’ve met some of my closest friends, and it’s where I’ve grown the most as a tennis player and a teammate. One of my most memorable matches was against Eastlake – it lasted 2 hours- and the best part of matches like these were all the cheers and encouragement I received from my teammates.
Tennis has been such a big part of my high school career, and I’m excited to embark on the next four years of my life at Carnegie Mellon University! I will majoring in computer science – I find coding and solving CS problems super fun. I’m also interested in how our minds work, so I hope to minor in psychology or neuroscience as well. I plan on playing club tennis in college, and I’m glad to have made so many great memories on the high school tennis team.
Our next senior highlight is Kalie Benson!
This was my first year playing tennis and I was really looking forward to the rest of the season! I'm really sad that our season got canceled and was super excited to get to know everyone better on the team! Even though tennis was cancelled this year I am looking forward to continue to play tennis in the future!
Our first senior highlight is Sydney Antezana!
Sydney started to play tennis when she was young. She didn't start to really like it until she joined the high school teams. Over the years, she has perfected her game. Not only is she a great varsity tennis player, she is an amazing partner and team-mate. Last season, we were partners (syd-leen) and competed at king-co. We celebrated every point with a high-five. When it was our serve, if our opponent didn’t return the ball or if our opponent double faulted we would look at each other and smile and say “intimidation.” I really appreciated how positive and supportive she was when we were trailing. I think it was the key reason we were able to comeback against Eastlake at KingCo. When you play with Sydney, you always feel like it's a team effort. She enjoys the competition and likes to win. I remember the multiple tie-breakers we had last season. They prepared us for the King-Co tie-breaker. We were ready and this time we looked at each other and we knew this was the tiebreak we would win. In the end we won and were the only team to move on to the quarter finals at King-Co. She is going to Boise State in the fall and plans to continue playing tennis recreationally. We will miss her!
