Cardozo Middle School
Welcome to Cardozo Middle School's page - Home of the Huskies!
Cardozo Middle School is serving as a water
distribution site. The Army National Guard will distribute water until 6pm.
Good morning! Cardozo parents,
We are providing curve side pick up for breakfast and lunch Thursday, Sept 1 and Friday, Sept 2 at the front of Cardozo Middle school from 8-11.
Thanks!
The city of Jackson and state of Mississippi are collaborating to resolve the water shortage that is plaguing schools, residents and businesses throughout the city. President Joe Biden approved Mississippi’s emergency declaration on Tuesday, August 30 and ordered federal assistance to supplement the state’s response to the water crisis. While progress is being made toward resolving this massive challenge, the overwhelming majority of our schools still have low or no water pressure. Additionally, we have several schools whose air conditioning system depends on water to run effectively. As a result, we will continue virtual learning for the remainder of the week from Thursday, September 1, - Friday, September 2. We will also evaluate the water conditions of our buildings on September 4-5 to determine if it is safe to return to in-person learning on Tuesday, September 6.
The city of Jackson has indicated the water shortage will continue throughout the city for a few days. In addition to the shortage, we have several schools whose air conditioning system depends on water to run effectively. As a result, we will continue virtual learning on Wednesday, August 31. We will continue to evaluate the water conditions every day to determine when it is safe to return to in-person learning.
Breakfast and lunch will be served tomorrow at every school site except Forest Hill High School. Breakfast is from 7 a.m. - 9 a.m., and lunch is served from 11 a.m. to 2 p.m. Scholars who attend Forest Hill High School may eat lunch at the following school sites:
Bates Elementary, 3180 McDowell Road Extension
Marshall Elementary, 2909 Oak Forest Drive
Oak Forest Elementary, 1831 Smallwood Drive
Timberlawn Elementary, 1980 North Siwell Road
Cardozo Middle, 3180 McDowell Road Extension
In Athletics, the following football games will continue as scheduled:
Thursday, September 1, Hazlehurst vs. Wingfield at South Jackson Field, 7:30 p.m. - 10:00 p.m.
Friday, September 2, Port Gibson vs. Jim Hill at North Jackson Field, 7:30 p.m. - 10:00 p.m.
Friday, September 2, South Jones vs. Forest Hill at South Jackson Field, 7:30 p.m. - 10:00 p.m.
Portable restrooms will be on-site at these games for restroom breaks.
Due to the lack of water at the facility and the large crowd anticipated, the "Graduation Classic" football game at the MS Veterans Memorial Stadium for Saturday, September 3, has been cancelled.
The games included Murrah vs. Callaway and Provine vs. Lanier high schools. There are no make-up dates for these games available at this time.
While we understand that the next few days will be a major inconvenience for many of our working families, we feel that these decisions are in the best interest of our scholars, staff, and families.
We also want to remind everyone that the Warmline, 601-713-4358, is open from 12 p.m. to 8 p.m. daily and is specifically dedicated to assist families who are overwhelmed due to the challenges of virtual learning and water outage stressors.

There's no better time than now! We're back at it with some more ! Celebrating Jackson Public Schools teachers as part of an ongoing series to highlight some of the amazing teachers we are connected with!
Kelly J. Leigh-Ann is a 6-8th Grade Academic Instructional Coach at Cardozo Middle School. We asked her what she loves about being a teacher, and specifically about being at JPS, and she said:
"I am a teacher because I have been called to do it. I love education, children, and community engagement. There is no better way to experience what I love and what I have been called to do in a more cohesive fashion. I enjoy serving others and seeing my service being "paid forward" by others."
Thank you, Kelly, for paying it forward and finding ways to turn what you love doing into something beautiful! And thank you to all of you teachers out there who are creating powerful and engaging learning environments for students across the country.
Happy Teacher Appreciation 2022!

JPS community,
Join us on Monday, February 21, 2022, for Working Together to Support Teens in Crisis. The virtual forum will be held via Zoom at 11AM and 6PM. Please make plans to attend one of the sessions. This event is sponsored by Jackson Public Schools in conjunction with Marion Counseling Services.
JPS is seeking input from all stakeholders on the Comprehensive Needs Assessment Survey.
The purpose of this survey is to examine multiple sources of data to identify the prioritized needs of the District as well as of individual schools. The data will assist schools in monitoring and assessing the impact of programs and instruction on student achievement. In addition, the analysis of the data can help guide the refinement of current instructional practices within schools.
The Comprehensive Needs Assessment is required as part of the Consolidated Federal Program Application (CFPA) process and focuses on gathering data in five dimensions: student achievement, curriculum and instruction, professional development, family and community involvement, and school context and organization.
Thank you for your hard work and dedication. We value your feedback. The deadline to complete this survey is February 21.
