Another “bang bang” (more on that later) trip to bourbon country picking some 🔥 for everyone.
First up is always our favorite. Picking Four Roses with Mandy is literally a trip I look forward to all year. The pick itself is always pretty quick but hanging out with Mandy & Holly laughing about all things bourbon is the gravy. Sorry, back to the pick. So it should come as no surprise that we blind picked another “O” recipe. 🤷‍♂️While it wasn’t Jimmy and I this time that were locked in on the pick as much as previously, Mandy and I were unanimous in a blind pick of our top 3 and our favorite. Which was #9. A gorgeous 10 yr 6mo OBSO that was laying deep on the Southend of Warehouse P. She’s a tier 5 on the 49th rick and slot Q. Almost hidden. Estimated to be around 120-122prf at bottling. It’s position being an omen* of what’s to come. The depth of character and layers upon layers of nuance will have you revisiting again and again to pick out new notes. Expect ‘The “O”men’ to drop early October.
Next up was a very quick stop at Wild Turkey to grab another Russell’s Reserve with our pal Bo Bounds from The Out of Bounds Show. There’s just something about standing in Rickhouse A, built in 1894 and tasting with Bruce Russell, 3rd generation distiller, that makes every barrel taste like an absolute dime. On this particular day though, barrel 6, the last in the lineup, was the one that was the true dime. It was a freshy, meaning untapped and we were the first to try it. There was no doubt. Of the 6 of us that tried it, all agreed it was hands down the winner. It has all the characteristics one would expect from a RR pick, plus a whole lot of very unique qualities. Bruce explained that it was very likely because of where it had been for 10.5 yrs. This one came from 4th floor of Tyrone F, a warehouse that is rarely in the barrel program. F has had some damage to its structure and just doesn’t have as many barrels in it. It also has uncommon air circulation due to the layout of the building after the damage. As soon as we decided, Jimmy and I had to make a really quick exit as we had a very long drive ahead of us.
So be expecting a “Bang Bang Play” to arrive late September.
Alas, another trip in the books and the waiting begins. Stay tuned for release dates and more.
Cheers

Happy Valentine's Day!!!

Photos from Briarwood Wine & Spirits's post 10/14/2023

To be released in only a matter of hours!

This is a 10 year, 110° Russel' Reserve Barrel Select, "Deuces" from Wild Turkey.

Nathan McHardy and Bo Bounds traveled to Kentucky and had the painstaking task choosing the right barrel to bring home. Landing on barrel #2, hence "Deuces", this dynamic duo chose a whiskey that contained a low to medium yield before being bottled at 110°, evident in the richness of color as well as the taste.

On the nose you're met right away with a punch of black cherry. Letting the spirit calm in the glass for a short while, the aroma gives way to roasted corn, gooey toffee, oak, and mild vanilla.

The palate almost reflects the nose perfectly. A subtle gasser for 110°. Immediately there's a burst of caramel corn on the front end followed by rich, black cherry, toasted oak with a leathery, honey finish.

This is the first barrel drop off the Fall season, and to me, is exactly what it tastes like. These gentlemen picked a true star of what quality bourbon Russel's Reserve has to offer.

We open at 10am and there's no limit on this gem. Get it while we have it, we expect this one to sell fast!

$79.99

Cheers!
