The Bohemian Barber Company
An eclectic, Scots-Irish-Americana, barber shop.
Great weekend attending the annual show. Keeping the knowledge, connections , and tools fresh to better serve. Never stop learning!
Happy St. Patrick’s day!
As a shop rooted in Scots-Irish-Americana traditions, it’s one of our favorites around here!
So, raise your glass or lift your pint, because we’re all Irish tonight!
“As you slide down the bannister of life, may the splinters never point the wrong way”
A HUGE thank you to all who showed up and donated to the charity cut for Sammy this past weekend!
I am honored and proud to serve, and work, in the company of such generous clients and friends!
I couldn’t have done it without you, so, once again, thank you for your support!
TOMORROW IS THE BIG DAY!!!
Tomorrow is the charity cut for Sammy.
I’ve been asked a number of questions about it. Here are the answers to the ones most commonly asked.
1. I am only cutting for one day for donations. If you donate tomorrow, it is not redeemable for a future cut.
2. I will be cutting on first come/first serve basis. I am not taking any appointments.
3. I will cut as many as I feasibly can for the day. I won’t be taking any shortcuts just to squeeze more in. I can’t do that to you or to myself.
4. To receive a “free” cut, just show proof of your donation.
5. You do not have to come in to donate. Feel free to donate through the link. You are appreciated, and thank you in advance for your kindness!
6. If you can’t make it in, but still want to donate, please do so on Saturday, March 11th to be part of the effort.
Thank you all for allowing me this opportunity! I could not have done it without you!

Striking Out Cancer for Sammy Mac # 6, organized by Mark Macaulay Hello, my name is Mark and I wanted to share with you, my story. On September 19… Mark Macaulay needs your support for Striking Out Cancer for Sammy Mac # 6
SPECIAL ANNOUNCEMENT !
There is a fundamental, deeply held belief that I have about business and entrepreneurship. It has guided my efforts from before the foundation of this company.
That belief is this: entrepreneurship isn’t all about money, it is about solving problems and serving people.
Barbering is service, which is one of the things I love about it. Barbering is also relationship, and it is for that reason that I write this post today.
Until now, I have not let it be known that every year, I dedicate some of my funds to charitable endeavors.
I don’t donate to large corporate entities, I look for opportunities that allow the greatest level of direct effect, and anonymity, as possible.
Sometimes it’s one “big” donation. Other times it’s many smaller donations, but always as direct and anonymous as possible.
So then, why am I telling you this?
Recently an opportunity to give came to my attention. I have been mulling it over for months. It is one of those things that has kept me up at night and has filled my thoughts throughout the days. Without a doubt, this is the right one this year.
My issue is that I think this effort deserves more than I, alone, can do. So, at the expense of my much preferred anonymity, I have decided to bring this to you, my clients, my friends.
The opportunity is this:
There is a 15 year old girl in our community, who has been diagnosed with and, currently battling, cancer.
Her name is Sammy Macaulay.
I don’t know Sammy, or her family for that matter. I have never met them, and I have only communicated with her father one time in a brief text, to notify him of my intentions.
But, as it turns out, Sammy and her family are important to more than a few of my client-friends.
But let me be clear:
Sammy wasn’t chosen on merit.
She wasn’t chosen because of her family.
She wasn’t chosen because of any recommendations.
This is simply about a family.
This is simply for their girl.
Providence put them in my path and on my heart, so…
This is simply about an opportunity to do something good “just because.”
Now, I don’t know how much I am going to be able to do for them, and I don’t know how any of this will actually play out, but I have decided that the Macaulay’s, that Sammy, and her fight with cancer, are worth the effort!
I would never ask you something for nothing, though, so here is the game plan:
Set your calendars for March 11, 2023.
I am going to make myself available all day to cut hair. That said, all appointments on the calendar will be blocked. This is going to be a first come/ first serve kind of day.
I will begin cutting at 9:00am.
All that is required for a cut will be a donation of your hearts choosing, to Sammy and her family.
Donations will be preferred through her go fund me account (I will have the link).
I will not be running any credit cards through my processor.
This is to ensure that 100% of all funds received will be given to Sammy. Not a single penny, on my end, will be going to the shop, expenses, taxes, fees, or my pocket. All that is collected is theirs!
I will be giving my own donation toward this effort, and then, on March 11th, I will be offering you all my time and skill, in hopes that you will help me multiply the ability to serve this family.
So if you want a cut, clean up, or just want to stop by and donate…
Set your calendar for March 11th.
Sincerely,
Josh The Barber

Due to the curly Q cloud thingy coming at us, declarations of emergency, bridge closures, and all the hurricaney things that come with hurricanes, the shop is going to be closed on Thursday and likely Friday.
Stay safe. Stay frosty. See you on the other side.
Proud to be the barbershop of choice for the Guns n Hoses charity boxing event, and honored to serve our cities first responders!
Great to see our clients, friends, and cuts, make center ring!
Congrats to all the winners and thanks to all who participated and donated to this amazing event!
Always investing….always learning!
Classic cuts are not old fashioned, they are timeless.
For any clients who have family or friends out Blanding Blvd way, there is a new barbershop that you should absolutely have them check out!
The owner is a good friend of mine. I’ve known him for six years. He is a phenomenal barber and an outstanding human being!
He was instrumental in helping me develop my skills early on, and remains an inspiration.
I am extremely proud of him and excited for his clients, family, and community, in the opening of his new shop.
Congratulations The Fade Haus Barbershop, Dre, and family!
Interesting fact about the shop.
All the best to the warriors today!
Saluting the Callahan Warriors/ Callahan Sports Association in their homecoming games today.
It is an honor to serve your team, your families, and your community!
Remember this gentlemen,
A warrior is the man that says “I am here today. I will be here again tomorrow and the next day, and I am right here, right now, ready and willing to give it all. I will place no limits on what is possible. I will keep showing up. I will keep standing up. I will keep getting up. I will keep pushing forward. I am relentless. I will not quit when I am tired. I will quit when this thing is done.”
It’s your turf boys…no mercy!
All the best,
Josh The Barber
New services available at the shop.
The Bohemian isn’t just about the cut…it’s about community.
Stay strong kings, we got your back! 😂
Big news!
I am very excited to announce that another barber has joined the Bohemian team!
Bryan Fernandez is a talented artist, a husband, a father, and has the same vision for community, roots, and service that I do.
I am looking forward to him starting and watching him grow his identity and bring his flair to the shop and to the north side.
It will be a week and a half before he begins.
In the mean time, renovations to make room have begun, so bear with our mess as we work this out, to bettter serve you.
Cheers
to all you Bohemians,
to the people of north Florida that we serve
To Bryan, his family, and his success!
All cleaned up.
Don’t let the mannish atmosphere fool you....
At the Bohemian, Mothers are highly respected, esteemed, and always welcome!
Thank you for all that you are, and all that you do!
Remember when people were treated like they had inherent value, instead of a disease?
We still do!
A traveling Chicago man, all cleaned up for his trip back home.
It was an honor to serve you!
Safe travels.
So fresh and so clean.
Big changes and special surprises down at the shop today.
This young man got his haircut over 2 years ago by Josh The Barber then moved 18 hours north.
He hasn't touched it since.
Knowing they would be passing through town, they made an appointment with Josh to get it cut again.
It was a joy, an honor, and completely humbling!
No one is ever "just a haircut" here!
Much love!
Wherever, or whoever you are in this world...

WE MADE IT!
One year ago today the Bohemian officially opened for our first full month in business.
Being that the Bohemian is celtic at it's core, this is a perfect month to celebrate. March is the month of St. Patrick's day, and many celtic celebrations, which sets this barber's Scots-Irish blood ablaze!
Little did we know that the year would be filled with interesting challenges. We would be shut down shortly after opening, because of covid, and the slow return was filled with restrictions and limitations.
It was a lot for a bootstrapped operation like this to tackle in it's first year.
But, we fought, and we made it...and we made it strong!
I couldn't have done it without all of you!
That doesn't escape me!
I am deeply appreciative for all the love and support from each and every one of you.
I have many ideas for the shop, going forward, and I am excited for it's continued evolution.
I also look forward to serving you all in the year ahead.
You are the heart of this shop, so come on in. Celebrate! This isn't just my success! Hear some jigs, reels, and bagpipes...and who knows, maybe you'll catch me cuttin in my kilt!
A huge thanks to everyone who has given me the honor to work with them over the last year!
To another year of service!
To all those who have supported this journey!
To all the strangers who became clients, and all the clients who became friends....
Thank you!
Sláinte
P.s. the video posted below is added under fair use and is not intended to be profited from. Scotland the brave is not owned by myself, my company, or a particular band, and it definitely is not owned by "the haddington pipe band" despite facebook algorithms apparently thinking it is. So this disclaimer is a mere formality to restore audio to my post. How fitting they would want to silence this song. Freeeeeeeedddoooooommmm!!!!
Playing New Orleans jazz and brass bands down at the Bohemian today....in case anyone wants to vibe along in their cubicle.
Have a great day everyone!
Repping my friends' shop in my shop.
Wait a second Josh, why would you wear another shops shirt at your shop?
The simplest answer is that they are my friends, and I support my friends.
The longer answer is that business in general, and barbering in particular, in my opinion, is caught in an antiquated mentality.
I do not believe that another shop, or barbers, success comes at a cost to my own.
So many in this industry seem to be jockeying for first position in a race that doesn't even exist.
While I will always contest the churn and burn business models of cuttery's and clips type places, and stand in the face of franchised cheapness....
I made a choice, from day one, that I am not going to shy away from lifting up other quality barbers, and will celebrate the success of any who operate with integrity, high standard, and who reflect the values and traditions of this vocation.
I know this particular shop, and the barbers in it, very well.
I know the quality they produce.
I know the type of guys they are.
Moreover, I have a core belief that serving my clients well doesn't always mean that I only ever point to "ME, ME, ME"
So, I am more than happy, in this instance, to point to them!
These gentlemen are good barbers, and good guys, who share my views on the industry and work hard to make a difference in it.
If you have any family, friends, or acquaintances in Saint Augustine that are in need of a cut, and you want them to experience the same level of quality and service you experience with me, then send them over to Fat Cats Groom House, they won't regret it!
Just when you thought the mullet was going to sink us back into the early 90's, the kids are moving the needle once again to.......the late 90's.
In all seriousness, let me tell you what is so fantastic about this cut.
Despite his father and I joking with him about slap bracelets, jnco jeans, Dawson's creek, Total Request Live and so much more, he maintained his desire to have this cut.
Not only did he want the cut, but was resolute in his confidence to have it, and wear it in public with pride.
This kid exuded something I wish I could instill in more clients....a sense of self confidence in personal style choice.
Style is easy...it's yours...you decide...and while reactions may vary, you are not responsible for those reactions.
I admire this kid for his sense of self, mental fortitude and authenticity!
I hope he never loses it, and I hope he infects others around him with it.
It is for that reason that while I laughed at the nostalgia, this has become my absolute favorite haircut of the week!
Always a joy when someone passing through town pics you to do their cut. Was honored to serve this young man!
Power has been restored to the north side!
All appointments are a go!
I won't be cutting by candle lantern....unless you want me to. (Don't tempt me with a good time).
Merry Christmas to all !!!
