Teamwork making the dream work! The very first dish to be served from the kitchen at Black Cat @ Vee Vee… You gotta get in here for Chef Valentine Howell’s incredible food! 🔥🔥🔥
Here we go! Black Cat @ Vee Vee night one. Bring it!
Looking at reopening late next week. And friends, you’re going to love it!
Vee Vee in Jamaica Plain gets a 'Top Chef' and new menu Vee Vee in Jamaica Plain has hired Top Chef contestant and James Beard finalist Valentine Howell to run its kitchen and new menu.
Who is Chef Valentine? (Apologies for the paywall, can’t find any way around it.)
Valentine Howell worked at No. 9 Park as a teenager, and he’s had some lucky breaks since then - The Boston Globe Today, Valentine Howell and his fiancée, Renea Adger, are about to open the Black Cat pop-up at Jamaica Plain’s Vee Vee, where they’ll serve a mix of Latin, African, and Caribbean dishes.
Oh, yeah — it’s happening…Black Cat in the house! Welcome Chef Valentine and Renae!
Two weeks ago we said arrivederci to Chef Keith and Corinne. Last night we bid a fond adieu to Keith’s food (and were visited by ghosts of Vee Vee past). We hope you got your favorites one last time, but either way, we’re pretty darn confident you’ll soon have a NEW favorite. We’re all feeling so excited about this next chapter — Chef Valentine joining us for Black Cat at Vee Vee, just in time for patio season. Phew! It’s gonna be killer…
Look for doors to open mid May.
So who is Chef Valentine Howell? Well, you may have seen him on this season of Top Chef. He’s a Dorchester native, so maybe you were rooting for him to win. Or maybe you read somewhere that he was a 2023 James Beard nominee for Best Chef, Northeast. He was also the executive chef at the highly regarded Back Bay restaurant, Krasi. Just as important as his impeccable credentials, though: he’s a super cool, incredibly nice guy. We definitely vibed when we met, and we think he’ll fit in perfectly. His fiancée, Renae, will also join us eventually. You’ll know her lovely face just as well as ours, soon enough.
Listen, we know change is hard! We’ve heard some worry about favorite dishes going away. And, yes indeed, they are (ok, maybe the butterscotch pudding will stay). We hope, though, that you’ll discover new favorites. Sometimes you need to let go of the old and embrace the new; this is one of those times. After 16 years, we’re excited to try something different. That said — the dining room and staff will stay the same. Not changing the color, either.😉
Ok, when is this happening? We’re operating for one more week with our regular menu (yes, one last Fried Chicken Tuesday), finishing up on Saturday, May 4th. The following week we’ll be closed as Chef Valentine gets settled and we start menu development. We’re hoping to re-open with the new menu in mid-May.
We completely expect and understand that this big change won’t be for everyone. Some people won’t like it. But we hope you’ll come give it a try, at least. And we hope folks that have never tried Vee Vee before will come on in, too.
We’re not big believers in astrology, but apparently an eclipse brings on a new period of transformation and growth. That seems to be happening (not just to us) and we’re here for it!
Still a few Fried Chicken Tuesdays left before our menu transformation…come ‘n get it!
How did we spend our Easter Sunday? Giving the patio a good spring cleaning, of course! Not looking like patio weather these next few days, but it will be here sooner than you think. And when it does, we’ll be ready!
How about our tasty delicious Gorditas tonight? A long-time fan favorite! Vegan without cheese, or add some cotija for even more flavor.
Some folks like corned beef & cabbage for St. Patty’s Day. We prefer a sweeter way to celebrate — Evelyn’s “Dublin Drop” cakes! Rich chocolate stout cake with Bailey’s Irish Cream frosting…YUM!
Too bad this isn’t a “scratch ‘n sniff” photo, y’all are missing out. But you don’t have to miss anything! Fresh apple crumble pie is on the specials board, served with a scoop of our crème fraiche ice cream, thanks to our dessert chef Evelyn. 🥰
