Truck on Ice
Truck on Ice is a fun, fund raising activity run by the Janesville Golden K Kiwanis. It benefits local children's charities.
We sell chance to win cash prizes by guessing when our red truck sinks into Traxler Pond.
Come buy sapling trees at our annual TREE SALE. It's at Rotary Botanical Gardens Horticultural center on Sharon Road, that is east of the main garden. Sale days are May 3-5.
This is the best place to get quality saplings for all purposes: beautification, creating shade, stabilizing soil, helping the climate. A great family activity.
We say, "Buy 'em small and let 'em grow." Way easier and cheaper than the alternative.
Yes, you can call to reserve trees: 608-756-0466.
Yes, you can buy 1 tree or a hundred trees. G*t a 10% discount for buying over 50 trees.
2024 Truck on Ice Contest Winners
Because of the warm weather, we had a drawing.
Congratulations to the winners!
Thank you to everyone for playing our contest.
Thank you to our generous sponsors.
Thank you to the hard workers in the Kiwanis Golden K.
Thank you to contest director John Janes.
See you next season!
The 2024 Truck On Ice contest will be a drawing this year because the ice is far too thin on Traxler Pond.
Below contest director, John Janes, is smiling because fund-raising for our local charities has gone well.
Thank you to all our ticket buyers, to our sponsors and of course to our loyal members.
Golden K Club member Darlene Johnson, who happens to be blind, selects the winners of the 2023 Truck On Ice Contest.
We did a drawing this year because the ice was too thin this year.
The important thing is we raised thousands of dollars for local child-oriented charities!
$3,000 Grand Prize Winner: Bruce Jorenby (Janesville)
Four $250 Winners: Ruth Ann Potts, Edie Baron, Bob Knudson, Claire Olsen (all from Janesville)
Ten $100 Winners: Patsy Sarnow, Jan Willeford, Doris Henning, Heather Walker, Doris Henning, Tricia Coppernoll, Paul Ryan (all from Janesville), Michelle Jordan (Minneapolis), Mindy Remley (Evansville), Barbara O'Brien (Huntley IL)
Thanks to all the players this year. We appreciate you.
Ticket sales ended yesterday.
As announced last week, the ice is too thin to put the truck on the ice. The city won't let us use the pond unless the ice is eight inches thick, but it was only six inches.
There will be a drawing for all the prizes on March 8. Good luck to all ticket holders!!
I am disappointed, because watching the truck sink is part of the fun.
Thanks to everyone who bought tickets and thanks to all our sponsors.

The sinking time is 4:14 on March 3, 2022.
Official sinking time is 4:14 PM on March 3, 2022.
In the photo, John Janes, our contest director, holds the clock which is wired to stop when submerged.
Winners will be announced later today.
Matt Butler sent this great photo from Thursday morning (3/3/22) showing the truck on its way down.
The rear of the truck was in the sun, so that is probably why it sank from the back first.
The clock is under the hood, so at the moment captured here, the clock is (presumably) still dry and running. We want know for sure until we tow it out of the pond.
Thanks to Doris Henning for the photo.
The Truck is in the water, and here is proof. It sank yesterday afternoon 3/3/22. 3/3/22 will be someone's lucky number!
It will still be sometime before we can tow the truck on to shore, and read the clock bolted under the hood.
It is hard to be patient, right?
With the temps pushing 50F, the Janesville Gazette published this photo of our truck on the increasingly slushy ice.
It might not sink today, but one thing you can bet on is:
sinking day is getting closer every day.
Good luck to all the ticket holders! Especially those with dates in March!
Here is the truck standing on ice that is increasingly slushy. Thanks to Mandy Mh for the image.
RealEstateNerds were out at Traxler Pond checking out the truck.
Good luck to them.
After cold weather tonight at 9, we will see a warm 53 degrees with sun tomorrow, Sunday (Feb 19). How much melting will there be?
After that, temps go back down again for the coming week.
Good luck to all.
The truck continues on the pond with no updates.
Ticket sales for 2022 have closed. Good luck to the ticket holders.

Finally, we towed the Truck on to the ice.
The photo shows the tow cables being put away.
There is still time to play the contest. Guess the time and date the truck sink to win. $5000 in total prizes.

I am loving the cold weather because the ice is getting thicker and thicker.
Here is the truck out at Eagle Inn. Its a great location, and we are hoping to rachet up the anticipation.
Have you got your tickets yet?
If you need tickets leave a comment, and I'll see what I can do to get you some. --Greg
Our Truck On Ice truck is clean-up and on the street again. Or at least in the parking lot at Exclusive Company on Milton Avenue in Janesville.
We polished the truck up to a bright shine, and we signed up new sponsors for the contest this year.
Now we need some ice -- ice to form on the Traxler Pond.
John, Tom and Bruce are at the garage where decorated our truck for Janesville's Jolly Jingle parade.
It is looking festive.
Raffle tickets will be available from Kiwanis members in December with public sales starting in December. We expect to put the truck out on the pond in late January or early February.
Jerry and Vicky Langdok prepare ten gift bags from our Golden K club to Janesville Craig High School's Craig's Closet charity which helps students in need during the Holiday Season.
Our Club has donated to Craig's Closet for several years. This year's donation will be over $2100.
We hope that our efforts will make a small difference in improving the well-being of our young neighbors.
The Truck has been cleaned-up and made a rare summer appearance at the Milton Independence day parade.
Thanks to the volunteers who made this possible!
FROM SPRING 2021: Here is the clock that was under the Truck on Ice hood. It shows the truck sank at 2:23
