Do you live or work in Beloit? Know someone who does? We need your help spreading this post. We have two lost dogs and need community assistance as we have two dogs with very sad children at home. Two families have been in search for their dogs for weeks. These dogs are chipped. Wrigley is the first family pet. Both families are devastated. Please report any sightings to us so we can get a good location to get these dogs trapped and back home. We know someone somewhere is seeing, feeding or knows something. Wrigley was last seen over by the water department. Bane was last seen by 3Franks. Please do not call out by name or approach these dogs. This can drive them further away. We appreciate your help on this.

Steps to follow when you have a lost pet...

What to do when you have lost your pet:

1. Notify the local shelters and the non-emergency police department in case anyone calls to report your pet found.
2. File a report with Lost Dogs of WI. Even though we don’t service Illinois, if you have lost your dog in IL please file with Lost Dogs of IL.
3. Post your lost dog report in any local online groups in your area.
4. Send a message to Hurley’s Animal Recovery team if you would like our help.
5. Pass out your lost dog fliers to homes and businesses in the area.
6. If your dog ran away from home, put their bed or kennel outside. Hang something with your scent up high on a fence or clothesline so the scent travels. If your dog was lost from a different location, be sure to get owner permission prior to leaving anything scented at the location.
7. Promptly respond to any reported sightings and/or return messages. Document any sightings. Include date, time, and precise location.
8. Make a map of the area and the sightings.
9. If you have repeat sightings at a specific location, ask the landowners permission to set up a bait station and leave out food. It’s best to include something that has a strong scent such as bacon, fast food, or jerky.
10. Once it is confirmed the pet is coming to the bait station, move the bait into a trap at that same location.

What not to do when your pet is lost:

1. It is vital that you do not approach, chase, or call out to your pet. Once in survival mode, even the friendliest dogs do not act like their normal selves.
2. Do not trespass.
3. Do not go to the area and try to find your pet. This includes getting groups of people out to the location. Doing this can result in your pet being driven out further, causing them to cover a larger territory, or leading them near a major roadway or more dangerous area.

We understand losing a pet is extremely traumatic and frustrating for everyone involved. HART has a team with many years of knowledge, experience, and uses a process that has had many promising results. Because of this, there are steps that must be taken and conditions that must be met for us to step in. Most importantly, recovering a lost pet can take days, weeks, or months. If you know someone who has lost a pet, please refer them to us. Remember please message this page only as other messages to personal pages will not be addressed.

Thank you for all your help in spreading the word when we have a lost animal. That is a very crucial step in our process!!

About us.....

Hurleys Animal Recovery Team (HART). HART is a Rock County based group. We have a service territory serving Rock County WI. We run on volunteers and donations. Unfortunately, we are unable to help everyone, but we can offer guidance and may have contacts in your area if you are located outside of our territory. We follow a live trapping process and do not work with drones or any search animals. We are an LLC not a 501c3. Currently, we are not planning on becoming non-profit.

If you are seeking assistance, please message us through our page. Please do not make direct contact with James Hurley through his private page nor any of the HART members unless directly requested to do so. Those are personal pages, and our HART page is monitored by volunteers 24/7. We can be of better service to you by keeping things in one place. Out of respect for all involved with HART, we ask you respect our personal pages and utilize this group.

Just a reminder this group is run on volunteers, donations and is not a paid service. We do have a service territory and unfortunately are not able to help everyone. Losing a pet can be very traumatic for all involved. We are run on a small group of volunteers which most have full time jobs, hobbies, other volunteer commitments, etc.

With this being said, we are asking you to help spread the word when someone needs help with their lost pet. Please tag this group or message this group only. Please do not target specific individuals unless you were directly asked to contact that person or volunteer specifically by that said person. Contacting anyone’s personal page creates the potential for information to get lost or missed. We don’t want that and try to always have someone monitoring our group. However, personal messages aren’t always checked and most importantly it’s a personal page.

We want nothing more than to get all your pets safely home. However, we do have borders. We only have volunteers and equipment that service a specific local area. For those beyond that point, we are happy to offer guidance.

We appreciate your help on this. We appreciate all your help and reported sitings. We appreciate you spreading the word. We currently are not seeking additional volunteers. We will reach out when we get to a point of needing more volunteers. One starfish at a time.

Thanks to all of your sighting reports, HART has been able to set a trap. We are not disclosing the location of this trap as too much human presence in the area may hinder our recovery efforts. We have volunteers monitoring our trap cam around the clock.

At this time, this dog has no known owner. If you are or know the owner, please contact us ASAP.

Reminders:

HART is currently assisting in the recovery of a heeler (most likely male) last seen on John Paul in Milton by the Dollar General.

You know the drill. This dog is in survival mode - normal behaviors such as approaching, chasing or calling out will prove ineffective and detrimental to the process - even if not a shy dog by nature.

Reminders:
❌ Don't approach
❌ Don't chase
❌ Don't call out
✔️ DO report sighting

Send us a message to report sightings.

Thank you!

Thought you all might find this funny 😆

To monitor sighting spots and traps, HART uses cameras that are triggered by motion to snap pictures. Our volunteers can log into an app and see the pictures the cameras have taken. This app also tries to identify the species of whatever it took a picture of - and it's usually wrong. Dogs most often register as "antlerless deer". We've even had a cat register as a turkey.

Here's some of our favorites from the past months so you can laugh with us. At least our volunteers get to be entertained when watching cameras.

We have some happy news! Maggie Mae was located today in South Beloit, she was taken to Rockton veterinary hospital where her chip was confirmed. She is now back home safe.

Although, she was found by someone else and our traps and cameras weren't needed this time around, we are always happy to help out and are very happy Maggie Mae is home!

Photos from Hurley's Animal Recovery Team, LLC's post 02/21/2023

Update: Maggie Mae has been found and is safe! Full update to come! Thanks everyone!

Cameras have been setup and volunteers are monitoring for an appearance from Maggie Mae. Bacon and familiar smelling clothing has been left out. This initial monitoring step is necessary so we can methodically place a trap. We are not disclosing the exact location of the cameras. Maggie Mae is in survival mode - normal behaviors such as approaching, chasing or calling out will prove ineffective and detrimental to the process - even if not a shy dog by nature. Please trust the process and continue to share and report sightings.

Reminders if sighted:
❌ Don't approach
❌ Don't chase
❌ Don't call out
✔️ DO report sighting

A little behind the scenes of Jim helping Rock County Sheriff's Office with the recovery of a nervous stray on N County Rd. E. This dog is safe now and has been transported to HSSW. Picture of dog in comments.

11/28/2022

A message from Jim -

I was not able to help a lost dog, due to work and distance. The dog did hold a special place for me. I won’t go into great detail as it’s not my story to tell.

I asked others who were able to help, they did without question by one simple sent message. They worked at mapping, making signs, posters, social media, everything to bring the dog back to its owner.

Tragically, this did not have an ending anyone wanted. To be blunt, the dog was shot, and died. Just a week after being lost.

They were able to recover his body. Returning it to his owner for some closure.

This work is the most difficult to me, in animal welfare. As you never know how it will end, you hope and wish they will end up in your trap, walk up to someone, or just return home. Always looming is something tragic. I’m thankful for those that helped when I asked.

Beyond this I’m still trying to absorb this, and be ready to help the next.

Jim

Today, Jim was able to assist Town of Beloit Police Department and Rock County Sheriff's Office in the recovery of a stray dog stuck in a hayloft.
