Spirit Horse Equine Rescue
A 501c3 nonprofit organization dedicated to helping equines in need and providing information about natural methods of horse keeping and training.
Spirit Horse strives to make the world a better place for all domestic equines. Through education in Natural Horsemanship we endeavor to help people make the change from traditional horsemanship, which uses fear, intimidation and mechanical devices to Natural Horsemanship which is based upon equine psychology, communincation and behavior.

It was Wonderful Wednesday for our pony Trigger yesterday 🩵☺️
The wise, kind, and generous Greg Gage of Therasage EMC gave him a thorough treatment that included PEMF (shown here), red light therapy, massage and the application of kinesiology tape to his back and hip area.
Trig’s been struggling with his laminitis (that’s why he’s wearing Cloud boots ☁️🥾) and had some digestive upset 😔 last week.
He’s feeling much better now that he’s on Gut X - and all of Greg’s treatment should have him “in the pink” soon.
Trigger was good as gold throughout, causing Greg to say, “I wish all the horses we work on behaved like him.” We hold to the saying, “Proper prior preparation prevents poor performance.”
ALSO, Greg was thrilled to see his former client Holy Week looking so fit, happy, and healthy 🩵🐴🐴🥰
Breakthrough day with the beautiful Vera yesterday 🩵
Since she’s been returned to us she has not wanted to be haltered in her paddock - only in a stall 🤷♀️ That’s just dealing with the horse where they are - it’s important not to think, “That’s ridiculous, you should be able to do this!”
Last week she was close, but went right up to the Dutch door to her stall, as if to say, “Put me in here so I can handle it.
But with continued love, language and leadership she finally was able to manage. No muss, no fuss …just understanding and acceptance 🩵🐴
Happy Friday all!
Here’s our Secretariat descendent, Holy Week, responding to my call!
It is darn near a miracle the way he has improved since coming to us - so lame and crippled with pain in most of his body.
Our wonderful “body work” guy, Greg Gage said at the time, “I don’t even know where to start” 😮💨
This guy is a testament to “Giving Horses a Chance to Heal”.
Absolutely positively 🩵🐴
And here’s the interview - I’d appreciate your thoughts - and if you’re willing to share YAY!

Too often we underestimate the power of a touch, a smile, a kind word a listening ear, an honest compliment, or the smallest act of caring, all of which have a potential to turn a life around.
It's overwhelming to consider the continuous opportunities there are to make our love felt.

BREAKING NEWS: Olympic medalist Charlotte Dujardin accused of abusing a horse in training video.
Here’s our reaction & action plan -
Exciting barn cat news from the Home Farm 🥳
Our Patches will be featured in a calendar for this organization that raises money for small animal rescues!
He’s come THAT FAR from being abandoned at a farm we were leasing - extremely thin, wormy, infected eyes and ears! I brought him back to the Home Farm for doctoring and attention (he was quite skittish).
Now, he’s a Calendar Cat 😻
We’re always looking for ways to make our equine’s lives better.
Since Rock Star passed, we tried Molly with Trigger, but Molly would get into randomly chasing him - which with his history of founder - and the belief that nobody here needs to be harassed - didn’t work out.
Due to Molly’s dietary needs (slimming down!), we’re limited as to who she can be with and it must be a dry lot.
Recently, sanctuary mares Wren and Gypsy moved to a foster farm so they could graze, opening up room with the mini donkeys (sorry, they have been staydopted for my granddaughters).
After a few days of being next to each other without much aggressiveness going on, yesterday, they were together for the first time for a couple of hours.
It went quite well, with a mix of curiosity and some trepidation from both sides. Sweetheart, on the right, is very non-confrontational and generally stayed away from Molly. Henry would like to boss Molly, so he made some tentative moves toward her, and when she reciprocated, Henry left with a sassy little buck.
We’ll see how “the dance” looks today 🤞
Eeep! The day almost got past me - Happiest of birthdays to our Cinnabar!
She was the last foal born here - and it was SEVEN years ago already!
She’s one of our very tightly bonded herd of mustangs that were in the largest law enforcement seizure in the history of the U. S.
Now she’s a big, brave, bold girl who has strong opinions 🐴🩵☺️
Yes, yes AND yes!!!
So how HOT was it yesterday? Even the cats are panting like dogs 😳🥵🔥
Our beautiful Vera, returned from foster (no fault of hers, the horse she was companion to passed away 😔), is becoming comfortable here again.
These changes are so hard on horses - especially the sensitive ones like Vera.
I have been using her food motivation to get her to accept being haltered. Wear the halter = go out on grass ☺️
Last night was a marked improvement in her feelings about me. After I put her back in her paddock with her buddy Trigger, she went and got a drink, then came back to visit - tongue out, savoring the water in her mouth.
These are the rewards that keep us in rescue 🩵🐴
The great rooster “ambush” - brought to you by Christmas kitten Pumpkin. So VERY brave 😁🐈
It’s good to be back to peaceful 🩵☮️
Mustangs Mica (grey) and Juniper enjoy some friendship and forage.
I’m SO ANGRY I could scream!
Our neighbors are shooting off illegal fireworks and it’s scaring the horses on the Home Farm to death!
These were not the biggest and loudest by far.
I called the sheriff’s department, and will follow up with them tomorrow.
Why can’t people be aware there are others in the world who don’t appreciate this kind of noise???
Leave it to the professionals at a venue people can choose to attend or not!
It’s so wrong for them to be able to terrorize others!!
🇺🇸 As we celebrate this Indepence Day, let us remember all the horses that helped our cause.

Oh dear. We don’t like to share disturbing images, but this case underscores how quickly we can be drawn into a situation and shift priorities to help an equine in serious peril.
Please help us continue our life-saving efforts. It’s been a rough year for donations.

In the “You Cannot Make This Stuff Up” category - we received a call on Saturday from a man who had just purchased a home that came with a horse and a goat. Mark was fine with having the animals (though he admitted he didn’t really know anything about caring for them) - but he DID know this horse was not in good shape and called for advice.
Mark did not know the horse’s name, so I’m just calling him Buddy. He is a sweetheart - supposedly 23 years old, but severely emaciated and weak. He’d obviously fallen on his knees on the cement in the barn - small wounds that were bleeding down his legs and attracting hundreds of flies 😢
It would have been too hard on Buddy to move him, and, fortunately, Mark was willing to do what was recommended. With our help, Buddy will be treated in his familiar environment and goat buddy (who appears to be healthy 👍🏻)
I went home and brought back wound care and fly repellent. I instructed Mark on a refeeding plan, and while Buddy was eating, I treated his wounds and applied the fly repellent. It was encouraging that he ate the mash eagerly. The immediate goal was to get him comfortable, and if that wasn’t possible, call the vet out to end his suffering.
Sunday, Buddy was much improved in terms of steadiness and overall demeanor. Monday and Tuesday he continued to improve. There is now hope that he’ll recover.
We’ll give him a good bath to clean up his legs as well as remove some dried manure on his back end.
When he’s put on some weight, we’ll have the vet out to float his teeth - which must be in really poor shape given his body condition and the fact that he had access to decent pasture.
We’ll keep you posted on this challenging case.
Thank you in advance for your continued support 🩵
