Sigma Kappa - East Tennessee State University
“Sigma Kappa is & will always be one heart, one way – & one Sorority where women can discover a more-than-amazing sisterhood!!”
June is Alzheimer’s and Brain Awareness month! Since one of our philanthropies is the Alzheimer’s Association, our Vice President of Philanthropic Services wanted to share some important knowledge.
“Alzheimer’s Disease is a degenerative brain disorder that kills cells and causes brain shrinkage, resulting in failure of the language and memory centers therein. Low income communities in the Appalachian region have a high risk of either under diagnosing or diagnosing the disease too late, preventing treatment until a patient is already in a later stage. In Washington County, where we are located, 10.3% of the population over the age of 65 are estimated to have some form of the disease, ranking 42 out of 95 counties in the state of Tennessee. Though new medication has been approved by the FDA to treat the disease in its early stage and slow progression, any treatment for Alzheimer’s is very costly. As Alzheimer’s and Brain Health Awareness Month comes to an end, I want to encourage everyone to research the impact of Alzheimer’s disease in their own community and learn how they can help raise awareness or aid the cause of the Alzheimer’s Association.”

WHY SK WEDNESDAY with Adrianne 🕊️
“SK means the world to me! I have found a great group of girls that encourage me to try new things and support me through them! It is always nice to see a familiar face while walking around the Culp, the classroom, or in the CPA. I have never been happier in college since joining Sigma Kappa!”
