Freaking about shedding or slow growing hair?
Here are some FACTS that can put your mind at ease and clarify some common myths:
1. The average head has 100,000 hair follicles. We lose on average 100 hairs per day. The more hair you have on your head, the more you will lose daily.
2. Our hair goes through 3 growth phases. Growth. Resting. Shedding. Throughout your scalp, hairs are going through different cycles. As you get older the shedding stages get longer. Bodies change, hormones change, it is what it is.
3. Your hair is DEAD but the follicle (the root of the hair) is alive. That’s why it hurts when your hair is pulled out, but not cut. Once hair leaves your scalp, it’s no longer connected to a blood supply! You must hydrate and moisturize to keep it healthy.
4. Average hair growth is 1cm per month (about .39”) and can be determined by genetics, diet, and external environmental factors such as stress and hair products (yes, your hair products can hinder or encourage hair growth). If yours doesn’t seem like it’s growing, it could be in the resting phase which can last 2-3 months.
5. Supplements and nutrition can only do so much for healthy hair growth. Build up of waxes and toxins on your scalp can cause hair growth retardation or even hair loss!!!! And visa versus. You can use amazing non-toxic hair care products, but if your nutrition is poor, it will be reflected in your hair.
6. Hair loss isn’t from something that just happened, it has been going on since the beginning of time - why does it occur? Medication, diet, illness, surgery, emotional stress, pregnancy, hormones, etc ... the list goes on and on! When something changes in Your body your hair is the first to thing you notice. Hair is effected months and months later. Say you had your wisdom teeth removed in June, it may take until Sept or Oct for your hair to be effected because it depends what growth cycle your hair was in at the time of the surgery. Same goes with stress- it can show up months later with a massive hair shed. Anything you put in your body comes out in your hair which is why they do drug testing and other testing on hair strands!
7. Your hair stretches up to 30% while wet. This is why you should be cautious when your hair is wet. It’s more fragile and apt to be damaged.
