Congratulations to the Youth Leadership Class of 2015. We celebrated the completion of the 4-month program with a terrific lunch at the Kansas City Airport Marriott. Two juniors from each of the 15 high schools in the Northland had representation in this class. Another great year...another phenomenal group of young people! CONGRATULATIONS!
One more to go gang! Our final session will start Tuesday, 8 a.m. inside the Marriott Hotel Kansas City Airport at 775 Brasilia Avenue, KC MO 64153. Upon arrival, we'll be located in the side room connected to the Pavilion. Then, at noon, it's graduation time! Can't wait to see you all.

Great session today with the Clay County Sherriff's Department. After a tour of the detention center, we met with Clay County Judge Harmon and Clay County Prosecutor Dan White, both of which shared great stories of their professional careers!

We'd like to officially introduce our Class of 2015! Earlier this month the first session went swimmingly, a few photos from that below, and the second session is coming up quick. Details to be posted here in the near future.
Youth Leadership Northland applications are now available. Contact your high school counselor/principal for details.
Youth Leadership meets one weekday a month from January through April, junior high school students take part in leadership development programs tailored to young adults.
Sessions are held at various sites throughout the region and focus on specific aspects of the Northland, Metropolitan Kansas City and the state of Missouri.
This elite leadership program will help students understand the Northland and their ties to it, giving insight into the business, legal, educational, political and health care elements of
our community.
This year's class will have 30 Northland high school juniors participating in the program [that's 2-juniors from every high school].
Deadline for applications is December 12, 2014

Urban Grown Farms & Gardens Tour Internship
Job Duration: Summer internship, 40 hours/week, 8-12 weeks beginning as soon as possible
Schedule: Monday-Friday, some weekend events and evening meetings
Wage: Unpaid, academic credit optional
Reports to: Ami Freeberg, Community Outreach Coordinator

Internship Summary: The intern will work with Cultivate Kansas City’s staff and the volunteer Tour Planning Committee to plan and implement the 2013 Urban Grown Farms & Gardens Tour. Tour dates are June 22 & 23, 2013 with events kicking off on June 15. The intern will primarily assist the Tour Coordinator with event planning, logistics and management. This will include supporting various work groups with event logistics, scheduling and attending planning meetings, social media promotion, recruiting and training volunteers. Tasks will be diverse, engaging and enable an intern to connect with the greater Kansas City food and urban agriculture community in a meaningful way.
Essential Qualities, Duties and Responsibilities:
• Ability to communicate clearly and work with a team
• Dedication to task and completion of assignment
• Enthusiasm to learn
• A valid driver’s license (having a car is highly recommended, public transportation to office is difficult)
• Flexibility and ability to work independently
• Dedication to the local food movement
Skill Requirements: The successful candidate will be familiar with Microsoft Word, Excel, and Power Point. Clear writing will be important. The ability to organize and prioritize tasks and work well with others will be crucial. A successful candidate will be able to work independently and be proactive in seeking support.
Cultivate Kansas City’s Mission and Work: Cultivate Kansas City is a non-profit working to grow food, farms & community for a healthy local food system. Food + Farms + Community = healthy lives, a strong local economy, and a more sustainable future.
At Cultivate Kansas City, we are a small, dedicated staff that wears many hats and work together closely to accomplish big goals for an organization of our size. An intern would gain practical skills necessary for work in a non-profit organization such as committee work, community outreach and marketing, event planning, implementation and evaluation, and fundraising principles and practices.

Internship Summary: The Development & Communications Intern will work with Cultivate Kansas City’s staff on a diverse variety of projects in the office and community. The intern will work with the Development & Communications Director to research grant opportunities; to implement, track and report on the comprehensive development plan; and to help with special fundraising events. The intern will also work with the Marketing Committee to implement the 2013 Marketing and Communications Plan, including assisting with research to improve our marketing techniques. Finally, the intern will work with the Community Outreach Coordinator on volunteer coordinating and management. Specific projects will be developed to meet the needs of our organization as well as the goals of the intern.
