The KU School of Health Professions is holding its second annual Making Health Care Heroes golf tournament on Aug. 23, 2024.
Last year's inaugural event raised more than $40,000 in net proceeds, allowing us to greatly expand our financial support to students as they prepare to become leaders in health care.

KU clinical laboratory science doctoral student Carlo Ledesma, M.S., MLS(ASCP)cm, was selected for the Power List 2022 by The Pathologist magazine.
This honor is an annual recognition of great and inspirational minds that underpin the medical laboratory and aims to recognize people across the many worlds of pathology and laboratory medicine. Congratulations Carlo Ledesma!

Letycia Nunez Argote, Ph.D., MLS(ASCP)cm, and Cristian Lozano, DCLS, MLS(ASCP)cm, were selected as TOP 5 among the American Society for Clinical Pathology's 40 Under Forty distinction for 2022.
This recognizes their achievements and leadership qualities that are making an impact on pathology and laboratory medicine. Nuñez Argote is a faculty member in KU's Department of Clinical Laboratory Sciences. Lozano is the first to complete the department's new doctorate degree and graduated last May. Congratulations!
40 Under Forty Forty Under 40 is a program designed to recognize the extraordinary work being done in the pathology and laboratory medicine by ASCP members under the age of 40. These are the future leaders of the medical laboratory.

“Pathologists, Laboratory Professionals and Residents are chosen annually through an application or nomination process. The program has recognized worthy members of the laboratory team both nationally and internationally.
“Five individuals are selected as the 40 Under Forty Top Five through a combination of public voting and committee selection.

Virginia Johnston, Ph.D., the first chair of the KU Department of Clinical Laboratory Science at the University of Kansas Medical Center, passed away on December 5, 2020. Learn more about her remarkable career on her obituary.
The family is having a memorial/internment service for her and her husband Friday, October 15, 2021 at 4:00 p.m. at St. Peters and All Saints Episcopal Church in Kansas City, Mo.
Dr. Virginia Johnston 1929-2020 Dr. Virginia (Ginny) Johnston, age 91, of Deer River, MN, passed away on Saturday December 5, 2020.
So proud of DCLS student Carlo Ledesma for passing the board exam for the high level certification of Diplomate in Laboratory Management - DLM(ASCP)!
According to ASCP, DLMs have responsibilities such as managing “operational and capital budgets while striving to hire and retain engaged staff. Strong laboratory leadership is essential to achieve compliance with the many regulatory and human resources guidelines.” By passing this exam, DLMs demonstrate a set of key leadership skills that can ensure quality standards are maintained and improved in the clinical laboratory.
