Clay-Platte Montessori School
A Montessori school where we celebrate diversity and being a community. Located on a 10 acre campus.
Clay-Platte Montessori School is located on ten acres of wooded rolling countryside. Old Maid's Creek meanders through the middle of the property offering an ideal environment for classroom study. There is an abundance of wildlife such as deer, raccoon, possum, wild turkey and woodchucks. Over 35 varieties of trees grow within the boundaries of the school property. The mission of Clay-Platte Monte
We have a new playset! Over the week off some wonderful staff and volunteers came together to help construct this beauty you see here, already serving its purpose and being used by our elementary students. Thanks so much to all who helped, you work is appreciated by the children (and by us) so much!
Welcome back from break! We hope you had a wonderful, restorative week. Here at CPMS we are back like we've never missed a beat, morning snacks are already underway.
Happy Friday! From all of us at CPMS we hope your weekend is everything you need it to be.
One of our primary classrooms is beginning to start a garden! Some of our wonderful parent volunteers built these beds, and now the children are filling them with plants.
Having plants in a primary environment is so important. Not only does it beautify the space, but the children learn to care for the plants and take pride in their space!
It's ! Here is one of the kiddos solving a simple puzzle to help practice visual problem solving and fine motor skills.
We love camping! Our elementary students took a trip last week to Pershing State Park for an opportunity to camp, fish, and strengthen their bond with nature.
Enjoying these long summer days!!

The wonderful and multitalented Jen Stoll has taken some time to write a brief blog post about pride. It is personal, thoughtful, and well worth the read. You can find it on our website, in our newsletter, or by clicking the link below.
Pride — Clay-Platte Montessori School First, it was Mikayla, the Occupational Therapist, who used ‘they’ for Alex. Then, Garrett used ‘they’ six or seven times in one conversation. So, I asked, “Did Alex ask to use they/them pronouns?” Garrett responded, “You need to ask Alex that question.” Later that day, my niece and ...

Practical skills carry heavy emphasis here at Clay-Platte Montessori. Even actions as simple as pouring something from one container to another can be a wonderful tool for learning!
Making a mess is a daily occurrence around here. Instead of shying away from things that make a mess, we welcome it. And with it we welcome all of the learning and growing that comes from making a mess, and learning to clean it up.
Happy Friday for all of us here at CPMS! Hopefully you weekend is exactly what you need it to be.
Montessori environments mean endless opportunities to learn collaboratively, and such opportunity means you are safe to participate or observe as you are inspired. All of this leads the child to feel safe and empowered to lead their own education, simply guided by the adult.
Music materials in the Montessori environment aim to teach children about sounds and how we organize them without the pretension that sometimes accompanies musical study. You can see here a student working with our bells, comparing them to see which create the same pitch. The name of the note, technique used to strike the bell, all of these things are not relevant. Just the music, how it should be!
Getting to contribute meaningfully to their environment is something that helps bring students together and provide them with skills they will utilize for the rest of their lives.
Practical life is a pillar of education for Montessori students, and here at CPMS it is no different. Students of all ages here learn the value of working with their hands and mastering the environment around them.
Our students never grow out of playing with sticks, it just starts to look different as they get older. Take a look at the latest stick-based creation from our elementary classroom!

Language is the way that we are able to relate to each other. At Clay Platte Montessori, our children are instilled with a love of language, spoken and written, from their first day at the toddler community until their last day in elementary. Its so beautiful to watch their relationship with language grow and bloom!
Blue Room students are in the process of perfecting their recipe for pizza! They are in the midst of fundraising for all of the fun things they have coming up this summer and next year. Hard work has never tasted so good!
Sometimes you need to take a break! With all of the excitement that we encounter in our day to day lives, it's important to take some time for yourself, catch your breath, take a walk, or maybe just sit on a log.
Last week one of our elementary communities undertook a service project to benefit the Ronald McDonald House Charity. They had originally planned to make 25 bags, but ended up with 140! This wonderful opportunity for them to give back to the community at large is something that really resonated with the children, and is not something they will soon forget. Thank you to all of our community members who helped!
