Interested students wishing to major within the School of Communication and Media will no longer need to take the entrance exam to apply. Now, students will only be required to complete COMM 1110, COMM 2020, COMM 2033, COMM 2135, and COMM 2240 with an adjusted 2.75 GPA.

Great news, PR seniors! KSU's student-run PR agency, Peak Communications, has just opened up two additional positions for the Fall, 2022 semester. Yes, it is short notice, but if you would like to be part of a student-run PR agency while getting credit for your capstone (PR 4465) class, here is your chance! If you are currently registered for a different section of PR 4465, you will be able to drop/add once you are accepted into the agency class.
If you have completed 90 hours, including COM 3435 and PR 3375, it's time to apply! Simply complete the online application. Once you receive a confirmation email, you will be asked to submit a resume. If you have questions, contact Dr. V at [email protected].
Not sure if you'll need textbooks for your fall classes? Visit the KSU bookstore in person or online to see which texts are required for you! Getting a head start on this process could save you a lot of time once the Fall semester starts.
The Internship deadline is August 9th. All internship materials must be turned in on or before August 9th. For questions about an internship in the School of Communication and Media, please contact Professor Payne at [email protected].
August 10th is the last day of registration before drop-add begins. Be sure to check over your DegreeWorks and meet with an advisor to see which classes you'll need on your schedule!

For the upcoming Fall, sign up for JOUR 4450: Video News Production! Students in this class will produce four separate 30 minute TV magazine shows and live election night coverage. If you are interested in television news anchoring, reporting, producing, directing, editing, and producing graphics this class is for you!

With the end of the semester right around the corner, be sure you’re on track to become an officially declared SOCM major! To officially be declared as one of our offered majors, students must complete the five Area F courses with a minimum GPA of 2.75. Since the entrance exam is waived for the 2020-2021 academic year, students can begin applying for their choice of major.

KSU'S Society of Professional Journalists will be hosting a virtual event, All About Internships, sponsored by the SOCM Internship Program. Ken Foskett, Internship Manager at The Atlanta Journal-Constitution, will be guest speaking and sharing his insight for students wishing to learn the ins and outs of internships. Don't miss out on this opportunity, this Thursday, April 28th at 9:30 AM!
Students with SOCM’s Peak Communications Agency participated in KSU’s first annual Community Impact Day to show how the student-run agency has helped organizations throughout the Cobb County area. Among the students attending were (L-R): Aly Turner, Baylie Gossett, Andrea Geiger, Maddie Young, Lauren Chapman, and (not shown) Bernarda Cervantes.
The 2022 Speech Olympics was a huge success! Roughly 50 individuals attended the event, and several students took home rewards for their great speeches. We are even more excited to announce that of our contestants, 11 students competed in both the speaking events and earned the Speech Skills Bag in KSU Badgr.
Students interested in the Georgia Film Academy Certification Program can now enroll in GFA courses in Owl Express. Classes range from set construction to post-production editing, and they are typically once a week for 6+ hours at on-set locations which include OFS Studio (Norcross) and Trilith Studio (Fayetteville). This program provides professional training and can lead to internships or job placements. Sign up for a class today!
The 2022 Adobe Creative Jam at KSU was the largest, single-university Creative Jam in the nation! With over 300 students, faculty, and staff registering for the event, this year’s was a 93% increase from last year’s. In addition, 75 students earned their micro-credential in Digital Storytelling, and 50 different majors were registered for the Jam.
Thank you for the hard work of those who had a helping hand in this event, and we can’t wait for the next one!
JOUR 4450 Advanced Digital Audio Production students recorded and produced the last Gold Dome Debrief Podcast for the semester. Each week the students wrote and produced stories about the 2022 General Assembly session. Keep up the great work!

Are you interested in a unique opportunity? JOUR 3395: Journalism Study Tour is available for you. This course offers students the opportunity to learn about news gathering, production, and presentation in one of the nation’s largest media markets. Students will visit news organizations to see how different media outlets operate. This is an intense two-week class that prepares students to better understand a professional newsroom. Students will visit news outlets for a first-hand look at the news gathering process.
