Archery Shooters Association
Largest competitive 3D archery tour in the country, hosting thousands of competitions since 1993. National Pro/Am Touranments
USA Archery has announced the slate of candidates for the upcoming election. You can meet the candidates by following this link:https://files.constantcontact.com/af94ab47001/2f2a6380-579f-4c46-8fde-f03fc73ecca9.pdf
This is the largest slate of candidates that I can remember running for an At Large board seat. Please follow the link and review the candidates closely. This is an important election and our organization needs the best leadership possible to guide it into the next Olympic cycle and provide more opportunities for our members. We're not just about the Olympics or elite archers who get to compete in World Cups and World Championships. Our Youth World Championship teams, World Field teams and World 3D teams are self-funded, including their uniforms. I think our organization can do more to help them.
We are coming off of the high of an individual Silver and mixed team Bronze Olympic medals, but we didn't qualify a full team. Only one male slot was earned by USA and we MUST change that.
Our National Head Coach of 18 years has left the job and we must find a suitable replacement. I want that replacement to come from the USA, but the search will be worldwide. The Board will advise and give the CEO and search group guidance, but the selection is the CEO's decision. That brings me to my next point:
Our Level 4 coach education has morphed from an in-person week-long classroom and peer oriented training process to a multi-month online process with no physical involvement. The program has changed into a lecture oriented classroom where Level 4 candidates learn about stages of learning and how to get students to make movements without telling them which body part to move. The Level 4 program used to be about coaching high level elite athletes, now it is more about talking to high level athletes as if they were beginning archers. I want to change that. We need experienced coaches who know how to coach. Let's teach them how to coach and not just how to use cueing to teach someone how to find an anchor point.
The Level 5 Coach certification may need to be revised, but a Level 5 coach should be able to coach all bow types not just one. Just assisting with Level 4 online courses does not prepare you to be an Elite Coach. A level 5 coach must be a seasoned veteran and competent coach that can walk the walk as well as talk the talk. Our Level 5 Coaches should have the experience to step in and fill the National Head Coach position. We should not have to look outside of our borders for one.
We have to work harder to expand collegiate archery opportunities for archers who are graduating High School. Over a dozen of my archery students are attending college as members of varsity teams, with scholarships defraying the cost of their education. Some are enjoying full-ride scholarships. Archery is a big deal in college these days and the programs are growing. I believe our organization can do more to help convince universities to begin varsity archery programs.
I am asking for your vote. I will not be a rubber stamp for this organization's leadership. I am not afraid to ask the hard questions and have the patience to find the right answers before casting my vote. Please elect me to your USA Archery Board of Directors.
