🙌 KINSHIP CONNECTIONS: Kenosha County’s Kinship Care program celebrated its caregivers and children at an annual picnic Saturday at Bristol Woods Park.

County Executive Samantha Kerkman joined in the celebration as families shared success stories, challenges, and thoughts about the value of the program. Thanks to all of the caregivers for the work they do to strengthen families!

Funded by a state grant, Kinship Care is a strategic substitute for the foster care system that offers an opportunity for children to receive the care they need from someone within the family — often a grandparent, aunt or uncle, a first cousin, or an adult sibling. More information about the program is available at https://ow.ly/r2ik50SGJpP.

The Kenosha Police Department, in partnership with Kenosha County Behavioral Health Services, is offering free mental health training sessions for local businesses. More details are below.

Community Partners,

Kenosha is in crisis. More of our neighbors, friends, family, and employees face either mental health challenges or substance use/misuse/abuse. In 2023, 21% of adults in the United States experienced at least one mental illness.

As reported by the American Psychiatric Association, unresolved depression accounts for a 35% reduction in productivity. It contributes to a loss of $210.5 billion a year to the US economy in the form of productivity loss, medical costs, and absenteeism. In fact, depressed employees miss an average of 31.4 days of work per year.

The statistics listed above point to the need of companies to take an active role in the behavioral health (mental health and substance use) of their workforce.

The Kenosha Police Department and Kenosha County Behavioral Health Services are committed to support everyone living, working, and playing in Kenosha live a happy, healthy, safe life. Please see the attached flyer for a FREE training opportunity that you can bring to your workforce. Yes, our community is in crisis. Yes, we can help. Yes, you can be a part of the solution.

We hope to hear from you soon because; together we’re better.

Respectfully,

Kari Foss, Director
Kenosha County Division of Aging, Disability & Behavioral Health Services
