Congratulations to Dr. Prakash Shrestha, a previous member of the Mao research group! Dr. Shrestha has accepted a tenure track Assistant Professor position at the Department of Chemistry at the University of Kentucky, effective August of 2024.
After graduating with a PhD from the Department of Chemistry and Biochemistry at Kent State University in 2018, Dr. Shrestha has been conducting postdoctoral research at the Wyss Institute at Harvard University. Dr. Shrestha will become one of seven professors who graduated from the Mao lab.
Congratulations to Khalil Mudarmah, who successfully defended his dissertation earlier today! The title of his dissertation is, "Synthesis and Characterization of Zn Complexes of 8-Hydroxyquinolines to Disrupt Zn Homeostasis to Kill Multidrug-Resistant Staphylococcus aureus."
The Research Experience for Undergraduates (REU) program kicked off today! Students from KSU and other institutions will have the opportunity to work in research laboratories in Chemistry, Biology, and Physics for the next ten weeks! The program includes a stipend, as well as professional development and social events.

Last Thursday, the Department of Chemistry and Biochemistry held its first annual Honors Symposium, which included the SAACS Wine & Cheese Colloquium. After this took place, the 22nd annual Celebration of Student Achievement was held in the Integrated Sciences Building!

This past week was Student Employee Appreciation Week. We wanted to thank our student workers! While you may not recognize them in costume, we can tell you they can be found hard at work in the stockroom and around the Department!
