I provide a unique combination of brain training which helps the brain to shift gears smoothly for optimal functioning and increased self regulation, while also identifying roadblocks in thinking patterns and behavior through the counseling relationship.
Reassurance seeking behavior often goes unidentified as an anxiety driven behavior. Appreciate this post and this organization for the work they do with OCD!
Reassurance and OCD Dr. Elizabeth McIngvale gives examples of reassurance and Obsessive Compulsive Disorder (OCD). Learn more about how reassurance is categorized as a ritual. O...
What a perspective shift this idea is that vulnerability is a measure of courage! And what a challenge it can be to break the engrained belief that vulnerability is weakness or that strength and vulnerability are opposites.
I have really enjoyed reading Brene Brown’s books over the past couple of months. And continue to be challenged that greater connection and deeper relationship lie on the other end of vulnerability.
Have you ever considered neurofeedback? This training tool can help improve your ability to self regulate. Neurofeedback can be helpful in calming the body down, improving your ability to be present, shift gears and descend into sleep. Neurofeedback can also provide emotional calming, soothing the temper tantrums of kids (or adults 😬). Neurofeedback also can bring stability to the central nervous system and greatly reduce or eliminate headaches and panic attacks.
Neurofeedback is a great addition to other therapies as it address the physiological symptoms at the brain level.
Whether you struggle with anxiety, mood regulation, sleep or focus, neurofeedback can be a helpful tool to find greater relief.
I heard this said this morning, “If we live for people’s approval, we will die by their rejection” and it really resonated. I’ve been thinking a lot lately about identify and how we define ourselves.
This is something that comes up often in counseling. There is this deep desire to know who we are and that we matter. How we go about answering that question is different for all of us. Approval and performance tend to be the biggest two sources I see often in counseling and in my own life.
Approval from others for MY performance tells me who I am and what I am worth. This works to some extent until the sources that we look to no longer approve, because they are having a bad day, are withholding of affirmation or have other things to focus on. This also breaks down when we are off our game, or come up against someone who has more talent than we do.
In a culture obsessed with self, defining ourselves, by ourselves by ourselves falls short. We need SOMEONE outside of us to tell us who we are. That someone is our Creator. Only His words will truly and finally define us.
“But now, this is what the LORD says - he who created you, O Jacob, he who formed you, O Israel: ‘Fear not, for I have redeemed you; I have summoned you by name; you are mine.” Isaiah 43:1
