HOW TO FIND AND MAINTAIN CONTENTMENT?

According to Swami Sivananda, the cravings will always try to place themselves at the forefront of our minds. We are flooded with marketers, friends, family, our culture, and our own ambitions, to do more, be more, see more, acquire more. So long as we can recognize the bombardment and not fall prey to it, we will open the door to observing how magnificent contentment can be. And the magnificent realization is that contentment can be found in our everyday reality. Thus happiness can be found readily at our fingertips no matter how outstanding, or lack thereof, our lives look to the outside world.

Choosing to live a life of contentment is up to us, and not of our circumstances. Commit to implement the mindset of the above recommendations, and let me know how you feel after a 30 day period. We are all human, imperfect, learning, growing, and vulnerable creatures.
Expecting ourselves and others to be perfect is destructive, it makes us feel ashamed and anxious, and interferes with our growth.

Much pain comes from trying to be perfect. When perfectionism shows up, it often brings its close friends: depression, anxiety and anger. Being a perfectionist can make people self-critical, feel inadequate, fearful, unhappy with life, as well as to suffer lower self-confidence and self-esteem.

When we hold ourselves and others to unattainable standards, without knowing it, we put too much pressure on everyone, causing all to fear disapproval, feel overwhelmed, stuck, and stressed. Further, expecting perfection, makes it hard to acknowledge praise or celebrate progress.

With the understanding that we and others will make mistakes, we can have a clear set of healthy boundaries for ourselves and others, as we strive to be the best version of ourselves, and believing the same of everyone else.

Perfectionism can drain your energy, complicate even the simplest decisions, and take the enjoyment out of life.

We can find the balance between expecting too much and expecting too little. We can practice healthy tolerance, and acceptance of self and others. When we stop expecting ourselves, others, and outcomes to be perfect, we discover that everyone is doing much better than we thought, and that there is much more beauty and fun in this world.

HOW TO GET PERSONAL FREEDOM?

According to the Greek philosopher and scientist, Aristotle, the way to achieve personal freedom is through “self-discipline”.

Self-discipline is a super inner power. In fact, one of the goals of yoga is to attain self-discipline – the commitment to the practice on the mat. Patanjali in the Yoga Sutras describes self-discipline as ‘Tapas’, and he teaches us that without self-discipline, one cannot see the positive results of yoga, or in life.
Here I share 4 Life Coaching tools for personal freedom through self-discipline:

1) Have an ex*****on plan.
Set up specific action steps and establish a clear finish line.
2) Have a backup plan.
Setting your mind to your backup plan would provide you the necessary self-control to deal with a potentially difficult situation you will likely face.
3) Forgive yourself and move forward.
Self- discipline is for life. Expect ups and downs, great successes, and gloomy disappointments. When you stumble, acknowledge what caused it, learn from it, forgive yourself, and move on. Do not let yourself get wrapped up in guilt, anger, or frustration. The key is to keep moving forward.
8) Reward yourself.
Anticipation is powerful. The main reward of your efforts will be your success. Also, give yourself something to be excited about by planning a reward when you accomplish your goals. Having something to look forward to, helps you stay on track, and moving toward your objective.
Self-discipline in and off the mat enables us to enjoy a life where we are less stressed, more successful, and happier.

The one action step to success is to build SELF-DISCIPLINE and DO NOT DEPEND on MOTIVATION.

1) Don’t depend on motivation.
Motivation is great to get the ball rolling, but motivation comes and goes on its own. Let motivation inspire you, use it while it last, but don’t expect it to stick around. The initial excitement will wear off, and this is where self-discipline comes in to help you stay on track.

2) Just do it.
To stay disciplined, you must adopt the mindset of “Just do it.” Be cautious of your mind which may give you countless reasons to excuse you from what you need to do. Do not second-guess your decision. Do not allow your mind to talk you out of your commitment. The decision is made — so follow through with it.

3) Know your “why”

HOW TO REACH YOUR GOALS IN 2022?

The surest way to reach your goals - any goal - in 2022, is through self-discipline.The training of self-discipline we get on the mat during our yoga practice, is to be applied off the mat. Self-discipline is the way to reach both freedom as well as excellence in all aspects of our lives – being more productive at work, learning to be frugal with our finances, following a healthy diet, improving our interpersonal relationships, controlling our anger and emotions, paying attention to what we say, or keeping a positive attitude.

Self-discipline is the fundamental action, mindset, and philosophy which, when aimed and applied at a goal, is quite literally a magic power. In fact, self-discipline is the strongest form of self-love. It’s loving yourself so much that you are willing to postpone current pleasures to give yourself everything you want.

However, we aren’t born with self-discipline — it’s a learned behavior. Being self-disciplined isn’t something we have — it is something we do. Self-discipline is a skill ,and as such, it requires our commitment to be mastered, with continuous practice and repetition. HOW TO NURTURE HOPE?

Hope is not something we are born with. Hope is something that we learn to cultivate over a lifetime of experience.
Nurturing hope means that it must evolve from just being a “feeling” hopeful, to more of a lifestyle that is reflected in everything you do. When you have hope, you experience setbacks differently.

Hope is not a passive act. To nurture more hope in your life, engage in the following proactive steps:
1) Affirm mentally that you can get through any challenge that life throws your way.
“I believe in myself”
“I will get through this”
“I trust the process of my life”
2) Discipline yourself to avoid hopeless thoughts It’s not what happens to you but rather how you interpret what happens, and then subsequently what you do about it that makes all the difference.
3) Engage in gratitude and appreciation which will always help you nurture more hope in your life.
4) List your successes. Your past successes will prove to you that you have already overcome incredible odds to get to where you are today.
6) Pray or meditate. You don’t need to be religious to pray. Set aside some time each day to be quiet and connect within yourself.
7) Focus on Things That Empower You: Focus on solutions, and on what you can control, and then move forward one small step at a time from there.
9) Make Peace with Things Not Working Out; many things will probably not work out as you had expected. Life is uncertain and things happen that we wish hadn’t happened. A hopeless situation might yet turn out into a blessing in disguise.

HOW TO DEVELOP A HEALTHY MINDSET?

Our inner monologue has a tendency to become a self-fulfilling prophecy. Thinking things like, "I will never get hired for this job," or "Nobody ever listens to me," "People don't like me", can alter our behavior in a way that makes those predictions come true. Simply paying attention to the way we think and taking charge of what occupies our mind, establishes a healthy mindset - the key component to a healthy body, healthy relationships, and a healthy life.

Below find 7 Life Coaching tools to promote a healthy mindset:

1) BELIEVE IN YOURSELF. Refuse to succumb to the downward spiral caused by unhealthy self-judgment and self-doubt. Push out negative self-talk, and replace it with positive thoughts about who you are and what you deserve.
2) QUESTION YOUR THOUGHTS Don’t believe everything you think. Pay attention to the tape loop of chatter within your mind and notice how that sort of thinking fuels anxiety, fear, and lack of confidence.

WHY PRACTICE MINDFULNESS?

A lot of people have this idea that meditation means sitting down and doing nothing, but that could not be further from the truth.

In fact, mindfulness is a state of active, open attention to the present moment that increases your level of awareness. This state is described as observing one's thoughts and feelings, in an objective manner, without judging them as good or bad. Mindfulness, therefore, can be a tool to stop self-criticism, while identifying and managing difficult emotions.

Mindfulness is an active form of brain training.

Cultivating the habit to be mindful is a discipline that helps one to become more focused and efficient, as well as to be able to cope with difficult feelings such as anger, sadness, and fear. Furthermore, the practice of this discipline has the power to deepen your connection with your loved ones, feel more rested, and curb unhealthy habits. Moreover, countless clinical studies show that being mindful provides relief from anxiety, depression, and other stress-related disorders.

MINDFULNESS PRACTICE – 5 simple steps

1) BRING YOUR FULL ATTENTION TO YOUR BREATH, AND SEND IT TO YOUR ABDOMEN

2) ACTIVELY AIM TO OBSERVE THE MOVEMENT OF THE BREATH IN YOUR ABDOMEN, AND MENTALLY LABEL IT: “RAISING” - “FALLING”

3) AS YOU FOCUS ON YOUR BREATH MOVING YOUR ABDOMEN, RECOGNIZE YOUR MIND BEING GRABBED BY THOUGHTS, FEELINGS, SENSATIONS, IMAGES, MEMORIES, PLANNING, ACHES, PAINS, CRAVINGS, FEARS

4) WHEN YOUR MIND WONDERS, LABEL THOUGHTS, FEELINGS, AND IMAGES THAT COME UP.

5) RE-DIRECT YOUR ATTENTION TO THE NEXT BREATH, AND CONTINUE LABELING MENTALLY THE MOVEMENT OF YOUR ABDOMENT: “RAISING” - “FALLING”

Because it is the simplest thing that we can do, and that almost immediately makes us feel better… the more we do this, the easier it becomes, and the better we feel. This is something that we can do, for just a few minutes, literally, in the middle of the day.

GIVING THANKS

As we celebrate Thanksgiving, we must elevate above our innate negativity bias that keeps us stuck in patterns of thought that leave us living in a perpetual state of complaint, scarcity, fear, anger, and inadequacy. Giving thanks helps us to connect to something larger than ourselves as individuals — whether to other people, nature, or a higher power.
And, although it may feel unnatural at first, this mental state grows stronger with use and practice.

Clinical research shows that giving thanks is actually good for your overall well-being. In positive psychology research, gratitude is strongly and consistently associated with greater happiness. Gratitude helps people feel more positive emotions, delight in good experiences, deal with adversity and build strong relationships.
Counting blessings boosts your health. Grateful people have less depression and stress, more energy, and greater optimism.
Giving thanks and showing appreciation promotes the increased production of oxytocin, also known as the “bonding hormone” because it fosters a sense of calm and security in our relationships.

With benefits like these, maybe we should practice being thankful more than once a year

You’ll see, focus on gratitude and you’ll feel not only extremely blessed and fortunate but also, you’d become a blessing to those around you.
