WWIN

Investing in a woman is investing in a successful future.

"As a mother of two young kids, WWIN's message to create stronger communities by providing women with the opportunity to succeed is the empowerment I was looking for and that I hope to create one day.

My immediate goal for my education is to complete my Bachelor's degree in the Interdisciplinary Arts and Sciences. Beyond this, I hope to continue the pursuit of my education by obtaining my master's followed by my Ph.D. As I transition into becoming career-focused, getting out and working directly with my community is very important to me. I want to be resourcefully active in organizing services and programs that significantly benefit our region. Helping those around me in any way I can has always been a rewarding experience even if it's simply showing, someone like me, that having a dream and reaching for it is more than imaginable, it’s achievable."

-Unity, University of Washington - Tacoma, Interdisciplinary Arts and Sciences

We are thrilled to congratulate WWIN Star Scholar, Katrina, for receiving the Grand Prize for Outstanding Work at the Bruya-Wood Undergraduate Research Conference at Washington State University last semester! Katrina and her partner presented on the "Effects of phantom exercises on phantom limb pain and symptoms" as part of WSU's Kinesiology program.

Katrina says: "This was a huge achievement for me as I had never done something like this before. I want to thank you and the entire WWIN organization for your continued support of my education. Without it, I wouldn't have been able to accomplish these achievements or be able to further my education. I am eternally grateful for what this wonderful organization has done for me."

"Being the first person in my family to graduate from university, I wasn't aware of how expensive college could be, especially without financial support. I am grateful to WWIN for awarding me the scholarship and providing the option to renew it each year. This support allowed me to stay focused on my studies without financial stress, and thanks to scholarships like this, I graduated debt-free."

"Receiving the WWIN scholarship made me feel incredibly supported, celebrated, and inspired to continue my educational journey. It felt like someone recognized the fact that it was a bit more difficult for someone like me to take on an academic path. I had a good handful of factors working against me. However, simultaneously, I was being recognized for having intelligence, resilience, potential, and promise. This all-encompassing recognition felt strengthening. And of course, financially, my WWIN scholarship means I'm graduating with far less student debt than I would have otherwise. Now that I look toward the future, it feels truly possible to take the next steps in life toward owning a home and starting a family. Thank you, WWIN!"

"The WWIN Star Scholarship has made my entire nursing school journey worth it. There were many times when I felt like giving up and did not think I was cut out for such a demanding program. But then I remembered that there were people who believed in me and supported me in this journey, even if I hadn't actually met them, and that kept me motivated day after day. I cannot thank WWIN enough for their endless encouragement and support. You have helped made my dreams of becoming a nurse a reality. It still feels like I should pinch myself and wake up from a dream."

"As someone who loves STEM, after exploring what I wanted to do with my life, I came across human-centered technology which is why majored in Informatics to go on the track of software development. The WWIN Star Scholarship has supported me significantly. I haven't had as much financial issues after getting the scholarship and it has made me feel less stressed which enabled me to focus on my education more. It is something that I'm extremely grateful for. I feel like I am one step closer to accomplishing my goals."

"I relocated to the United States from Nigeria about 5 years ago and my journey and experience have positively shaped my life. I have grown so much in knowledge and wisdom with the support I received from school, friends, and family. Having the extra support from WWIN helped me achieve my academic goals and to be there for my daughter as a single mom. I really would love to continue my education to the doctorate degree. And with the love and support I get from scholarships such as WWIN, which encourages and motivates me to further my education, I am willing to keep furthering my studies."

"Education has had a profound impact on my life. It has changed my entire perspective and gave me the confidence I need to make a difference in this world. Because of the WWIN scholarship, I was able to volunteer at my local foodbank and community center, and it gave me time to be a mom. I have made new professional contacts and grown my network. I am grateful for the financial AND emotional support that WWIN has given me. I feel blessed to be part of the WWIN community."

"I dream of a future for myself and others that offers opportunities for happiness and longevity, because that's one we’re all deserving of. It means a lot to me that WWIN shares in this dream of mine and that their belief in me and what I can do for myself is enough to help put me through college. Together I hope we’ll reach a future where I can help make the Earth a brighter place for future generations through conservation work and people can see the beauty of the world and appreciate without barriers or boundaries."

"As a minority woman in STEM, I understand firsthand the additional obstacles and challenges that come with pursuing a degree in a field where women are underrepresented. WWIN's dedication to supporting women like me is incredibly powerful and meaningful. It is through your generosity and belief in the potential of women that I have been able to overcome these obstacles and achieve success. With each step forward, I am reminded of the incredible support I have received and am motivated to continue striving for excellence.”

"I graduated with a bachelor’s degree in English and a focus in creative writing and a minor in education. I am a first generation college student, I worked in residence life and food service on campus, I volunteered, as well as being a member of Kappa Alpha Theta and working to empower women through our works of volunteering and supporting CASA. My next steps are going back to University of Puget Sound Fall 2024 and working toward my Masters of Arts and Teaching to get my teaching certification.

I am so thankful to everyone at WWIN for checking on me through my time in college and letting me know you all believed in me. It was hard at times but with all the faith and support I was able to fight through and succeed. Thank you for everything. "

"This is me along with my emotional support animal, 'Buddy.' He stayed up late nights with me while I studied and made me laugh as I threw toys for him and comforted me and cuddled me when I was having tougher days. I gave him his own cap because he earned it as well 🙂."

-Katherine, Northwest University, Nursing

"Right now, I am working as a Mental Health Technician in an Evaluation and Treatment Center for people on involuntary psychiatric hold. I also work as a Registered Behavior Technician during the school year, providing ABA interventions in the school environment for students struggling with maladaptive behaviors to better communicate their needs effectively. In both fields, I get to help others, and that is truly where my heart is.

A fun fact about me is I am an avid rock collector with pieces from all around the world in my collection. One of my favorite pieces is an onyx carving of a Phoenix. A Phoenix is very symbolic for my family, as from the ashes of struggle, hardships, and illness we will rise, brighter and stronger than ever. Thank you WWIN for helping us rise with this scholarship. Thanks to your generosity and belief in me, we will finally see my education complete. From here, we soar!"

-Megan, Eastern Washington University, Health Psychology

MANY THANKS to those who supported WWIN during Give BIG! Together, we can show the world what's possible when we invest in women's education. In the words of Star Scholar, Eva:

“After completion of a Registered Nursing degree, my long-term goal is to pursue a Bachelor’s of Science in Nursing, which will foster my love of learning and provide me with the critical thinking to provide excellent patient care. The Star Scholarship is very meaningful to me - not only financially, but emotionally as well, as it has strengthened my belief in myself. Coming from a minority group and being a first-generation college student, I want to break the cycle of limited options, and give my kids the chance they deserve. I have seen the hardships in working and paying for my educational path and would like to see an easier solution for my children and future generations after me. This scholarship means opportunity, stability, and hope for my future career.”
