Our team and the individuals we serve had a blast tie-dyeing this week in celebration of Direct Support Professional Recognition Week. It's always wonderful to come together and celebrate the incredible work our team does to support our mission! 🤍🎉

Mayor Zac Burden signed a proclamation recognizing Direct Support Professionals Week from September 8 through 14, 2024.

The Supreme Court of the United States, in Olmstead v. L.C., held that under the Americans With Disabilities Act of 1990, a State must provide person-centered, community-based service options to individuals with intellectual and developmental disabilities. Direct care workers, including direct support professionals, personal assistants, personal attendants, in-home support workers, and paraprofessionals are key to providing publicly funded, long-term support and services for millions of individuals with disabilities.

By fostering connections between individuals with disabilities and their families, friends, and communities, direct support professionals ensure that individuals with disabilities thrive at home and avoid more costly and challenging institutional care. The majority of direct support professionals are employed in home- and community-based settings, and that trend is expected to increase over the next decade.

All citizens of Kirksville are encouraged to recognize the value, kindness, and dignity these cherished professionals make possible for individuals with disabilities in our community. Join the City of Kirksville in thanking them for their services.

Last week, our CHS/CVA program office hosted an Easter Egg Hunt for the individuals we serve! 🐰🥚 Everyone had a blast searching for eggs and enjoying the festivities!

Congratulations to Patty Sutton on receiving the 2024 Ramon Pollard Memorial Lifetime Achievement Award from the Adair County SB40 Developmental Disability Board. This prestigious award, presented in loving memory of the late Ramon Pollard, recognizes Patty's unwavering commitment to inclusion, her remarkable achievements, and her dedication to enhancing the lives of others. Patty's contributions are truly commendable and deserving of this esteemed recognition! ❤️

Congratulations to Patty Sutton, the 2024 winner of the Ramone Pollard Lifetime Award on another nomination for the Missouri Mental Health Champions Award! She will be recognized for the nomination in May at the Awards Banquet for the three 2024 winners.
