Story from one of my customers. What are your thoughts on this? Most states are cracking down on this and everyday we hear about people getting into serious accidents or even death because of using their phone while driving.

PSA ON USING HANDS FREE WHILE DRIVING

My friend's daughter recently got a ticket for using her cell phone while driving. She had just pulled out of a parking lot in Jefferson City when her phone rang. The bluetooth was taking it's time connecting, so she just picked it up. Unfortunately for her, a police officer pulled up at the exact moment she answered the phone. He gave her a ticket for $65.

Her parents thought $65, no big deal. Just pay it, don't do it again, and go on with life. Which is what she did. But then they got their new insurance bill and it had increased by $2,000. You read that right, two THOUSAND dollars!

When they called, they found out that Tennessee is one of five states that considers this a major moving violation. Some insurance companies consider it similar to a DUI. It is a Class C Misdemeanor and will add three points to your license, and those under 18 could risk suspension. This is a good reminder to all of us that no call or text is worth it. It is beyond dangerous, but it can also be very expensive.

People seem to always wonder why insurance goes up. I see about 4-5 accidents a day and usually most of the time they are rear end accidents because people want to ride your bumper the entire time even if you are going 85mph. My car insurance doubled since moving to Knoxville and now I understand. Look at these stats
