Looking to save a little money on your monthly expenses? Read on for some energy efficient ways to help lower your monthly utility bill...

#1. Switch to energy efficient bulbs - CFL & LED bulbs use less energy, and are better for the environment!
#2. Keep air vents open, and clear of furniture. The department of energy says when vents are closed, furnaces and air conditioners have to work harder to distribute air around your home.
#3. Keep the temperature in your apartment low while you are away. Keeping your heat set at 68°F to 70°F during the day, and 7°F to 10°F lower when you're not home, is the best way to save on heating costs.
#4. Turn off lights, appliances, fans, and electronics when not in use. Electronics that are plugged in, still use a small amount of energy when connected to the outlet. Don't forget to unplug battery chargers when not in use!
#5. Washing machines cost more when using hot water. To save money, wash in cold, or warm water instead. 90% of a washing machine's energy is used heating water.
#6. Keeping the lint trap on your dryer clean can save you money. It will help ensure proper air flow which improves your dryers efficiency while also helping to prevent a fire. Using a drying rack to dry certain items can also help save energy.
#7. Showering just a few minutes less, can save you around 2.5 gallons on water per minute!
#8. You can save money with your dishwasher by waiting until it is completely full before running it.
#9. Using a cashback credit card to pay for utilities can put a little extra cash in your pocket.
